That's why I recently got the newer "classic ipod" with 160GB, supposedly holds up to 40,000 songs.

The original one I bought in 2006 was 32GB, about 8,000 songs capacity.

Currently my iphone 4S has 5,773 songs (little space left due to apps) and my ipod has about 7,000 songs. There is still 123GB left in the ipod!

I kinda have music all over different computers and drives. I also get different numbers on different music players on my main computer so I can't really tell at all. Plus there's still stuff I need to go through and add. If I have to make a guestimation though, I guess it would it, definitely, be over 10,000+ songs in total.

Though, I have to ask you guys:

Do you really listen to all of your music? How many songs in your player don't even get played at all? Or just get played only once? Or are you the type where you are more into the collecting side of it? I can't imagine that someone can, seriously, tell me that they are able to sing a long to every single song that they have in their playlist...

Yes actually. Especially when it gets really close to laundry time.

Whatever I haven't worn in a while goes in the garbage or to charity.

Isn't this thread an example of today's fast culture, of the prevalence of quantity vs. quality? What's the importance of having an ipod full of songs?

I only listen to physical music, with time and peace, and, frankly, I get uptight when the waiting list increases too much, even to 100 albums. But I prefer slow culture.

OK, keep on throwing stats! wink

It's possible too, but in recent times I've noticed a change in the way people enjoy music, which I've tried to express in my comment, and which I see reflected in this discussion.

You are right, but I just tend to see that music lovers generally have a passion for music, and most on this forum do.

OK, I know all of you have a passion for music, of course! I didn't mean anything different, nor did I mean my way of collecting/listening to music is better. Of course, I prefer it, and I think we shouldn't loose the perspective of giving music the time and attention it deserves, but that's all.

Personally, there are hundreds of songs that I haven't played in my iTunes musical collection but as time goes, I'm sure I'll come across of the record and listen to it.

Yes. But Im confused about the op's comments. Are we not supposed to have over 500 songs etc? I collected music for 20 years or so and now have them on a device where I can pull up any one of my choices at any given time for any reason at any place now. One day I may feel like Beethoven, one day I may be at a function and want to play Led Zep, or another where LL old school comes into play etc. And I might add that only about 500 songs on my player are from straight downloads. The rest came from downlioading my cd's (about 1000 of them)...and Ive fucked/licked every one of them too.

I know what you mean, I've been thinking about this too.

But when I look at myself (13717 mp3's, 48,2 days cool ) I try a lot of new stuff and listen frequently to the good stuff. So it's still about quality.

But without all the MP3's I would never have found all this good quality music and would still be stuck with my old, never changing taste. My horizon is much wider now.

Oh well you didnt indicate that in your initial title for this thread...I thought you were speaking of MP3s in general...

oh and ps yes it does count as it was alot of hard work collecting all the songs from artists since the 40s it shows nothing but love for music!!! In fact it counts so much that well...I'm still counting.... ;
