Other than "I Love Your Smile", A&M never put any effort into marketing Shanice outside of R&B radio. I believe both she and Vesta had around the same number of Top 10 R&B hits during their respective careers. Shanice scored slightly better on the Pop charts than Vesta but nothing impressive.
Shanice got top notch videos for No 1/2 Steppin and Can U Dance and promotion of the two on pop radio. Well, at least in my area she did. They were trying to turn her into the next Janet.
No 1/2 Steppin was the jam. They were kinda marketing her like Janet. It's no coincidence
they bothe were labelmates. Don't laugh at my funk

Shanice was not on A&M at that time. She got dropped after her first album. She signed with Motown and released "I Love Your Smile."
I was just thinking about that myself. I wasn't quite sure because i never bought her second album.
I have her debut on cassette and also have 21 ways and her LaFace cd. Don't laugh at my funk

I recently dusted off her 2nd album and the ballads were decent, however, the uptempo trax didn't age well at all. Especially the ones where she was trying to rap. |

I am confused by this statement about Vesta needing to stop having lunch to provide someone with a photo op. ??? Stopping or altering your every moment and activity based on what someone else's needs, or their perceptions about how you should behave, is insanity personified. Seems doubtful that the 45th person who interupted her that day or week would care about the first 44 interuptions she edured, but they really should have. And why does she have to be "gobbling down a dozen hotdogs?" Would she have simply been eating lunch if she had not make someone wait forever "just" to take a picture with her?
That was a fun episode. She was cute and fine and many of us were probably thinking it would have been quite something to know her. Vesta 6 woulda been wild for a minute.
First of all yes she is suppose to alter whatever she is doing. That is part of an entertainers life. She was at Disneyland for christ sake with a hit record on the radio with a Vesta 4 u t-shirt on in big red letters. Trust me she wanted the attention. Plus if it wasn't for me and my girlfriend at the time asking her for a pic. NOONE would have known who she was..
I like her spirit but Vesta(R.I.P) was very rude about it. Yes! she did gobble a dozen hotdogs one by one. I guess she was really hungry. Then she waved her arm up like she was Diana Ross for us to come back over to take the picture(Which I still have). But its an experience I'll never forget. She was honest and being her diva self. I may have done the same thing if I was her.... will ALWAYS think of like a "ACT OF GOD"! You were "at Disneyland for christ sake," and you are "suppose" to wait on line there.

You were lucky. A lot of other singers would have finished their lunch/dinner and would not have called you back over.
And you ain't seen rude. A friend of mine told me she was told off by Anita Baker once for asking Anita for an autograph while she was shopping at the mall. And she didn't get it neither. Now, that's rude! Celebs generally dont like to be bothered while they are eating. I was with a friend once and we saw Lou Rawls a few tables away from us. I sent my friend over to get his autograph. He gave it to her but she said he had a serious attitude when she asked him for it. [Edited 1/5/12 17:41pm] "It's not nice to fuck with K.B.! All you haters will see!" - Kitbradley

I have seen rude b4. I said i would never bring this up again. But a certain ex lead singer(Now very successful artist) of a very popular three member group was extremely rude to me.
Vesta in any other situation i would have understood if she was incognito. But she wanted to be seen. Her & her entourage all had Vesta 4 u t-shirts on....She still wasn't recognised. She acted like she was a mega hit Janet Jackson. But anywho. R.I.P VESTA i still love U.. will ALWAYS think of like a "ACT OF GOD"! N another realm. mean of all people who might of been aliens or angels.if found out that wasn't of this earth, would not have been that surprised. R.I.P. |

Great episode. Sad but lightened by Vesta's sense of humor and never-give-up spirit. May she sing forever in the unearthly choir. "Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything." --Plato

Yeah, it seemed well done and it was such a strange contrast between the sadness and the humor. I ended up with a big crush on her after the show. |
