There is a single version and a album version. Both totally different.

I dig his pop stuff but hearing him be so soulful, especially at such a young age, makes me sad that he did so little music like this.

Young Mike killed that shit. Period. No one's been able to touch his vocals on that song (And yes i'm aware it's a cover and was originally written/recorded by the Miracles), but no one has been able to sing this song the way MJ did.

I still get goosebumps everytime I hear Michael sing "Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeennnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII Haaad Youuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu" lol. Love it.

Yeah, that's great.

"When Michael Jackson is just singing and dancing, you just think this is an astonishing talent. And he has had this astounding talent all his life, but we want him to be floored as well. We really donĀ“t like the idea that he could have it all."

I agree. I always wanted Michael to do more "soul" music. However, his voice was soulful, even when he didn't do "soul" music. Michael's voice affected/affects me like no other. He could sing ANY style and make you FEEL it. I don't know of any other artist who does this.

My point exactly. The most remarkable child vocal performance as far as I'm concerned. He stole that one from Smokey and took it to another level far beyond Smokey and the Miracles. Has anyone heard the 1970 L.A. Forum version??? Just amazing!

You have a link??

Here's a funny video.

But I think that when Michael was 13 he sang it best.

Agreed! This is the classic Ed Sullivan performance and it was phenomenal. In fact, their entire set still gives me chills. I can't seem to find a YouTube link of the Forum version, but it is on the Hip-O Select release, Live At The Forum. Michael tore that song up at only 13 years old and the audience (mostly females) went bonkers.

Why Michael didn't sing it after age 13 or whatever, I'll never understand. When that "This Is It" tour was being organized, I dreamt he had included the song on the set list. sad

Probably was going thru the puberty thang by then & figured he couldn't hit those high notes.

Yeah, could've, but he was probably still trying find his range at the time...

There's a live recording, where they performed in Japan, and you can tell, he was going thru vocal changes..

It's somewhere, on youtube biggrin
