I got the soundtrack bought for me this Christmas (Vol 1). Been trying to track it down at a reasonable price for ages. Always had the Grandmaster Melle Mel 'Beat Street' 12 inch though. Went to see it when it came out and people were breakin' down the aisles! 'Wild Style' is a good film from that era too...

Never seen the movie before, but late last year I found a copy of the soundtrack for a buck. Also I paid the same amount for the Grandmaster Flash 12 inch a couple of months prior.

See the movie...trust me,it's great.Unlike the 'Breakin' films,'Beat Street' actually has a strong, focused storyline. It's not just a bunch of kids breakdancing in the streets.

It´s a good film, and I loved it as a kid, and I still do....but most of the real HipHop heads back then hated it back in the day because they regarded it as a "Hollywood" version of HipHop.

Wild Style and Stylewars will always be the real deal.

Breakin´ and Electric Boogaloo were a joke but at least they showcased a little bit of the LA scene and its unique and different flavor. Check out Breakin´ and Enterin if you´d like to see a rawer and more authentic version of Breakin´. A bit hard to find but definitely worth watching. Lots of old footage with Ice-T and Egyptian Lover at the Radiotron, and Ice-T breakdancing. Very authentic stuff, a blast from the past. I bought the DVD on Ebay.

By the way, I still have my original Beat Street cassette from 1984. One of the first tapes I bought, along with the first Whodini album.

There is another version of the Beat Street soundtrack, Volume 2. Same cover but slightly different colors, more yellow-greenish instead of purple and yellow. I like both.

This is the cover of volume 2.

Volume1:

And Volume1 + 2 combined:

Very rare 12" :[img:$uid]http://www.thafoundation.com/R-1026748-1185563289.jpg[/img:$uid]

I need to find the Volume 2 'Beat Street' soundtrack.I assume it contains all the songs that weren't featured on the first volume (like "I.O.U" by Freeze).

The ONLY redeeming quality of that "Rappin" movie is the scene where Ice-T and Evil E rap their rare song "Killers", dressed to the nines in white Adidas Superstars with red stripes and red fat laces, strapped with Uzis. Other than that, the movie sucks ass.

Here´s the clip, off of YT, recorded from Turkish TV wink

I really like those old school Ice-T songs that were released before his heavily underrated Rhyme Pays album came out. Killers , 6NTha Mornin´, Ya Don´t Quit, DogNThaWax and Reckless were really great, obscure underground classics. And Rhyme Pays was, IMO, his best album ever.

I miss those days.

Did you know that Ice-T´s first 12" was produced by Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis after they were fired by Prince? Ice was also the first artist who spoke about Prince´s beef with WB during an interview with German TV. This was around 1989 ! He said WB was Prince´s pimp, and called Prince WB´s most expensive hoe.
