Very nice release. Listened to this last night.
I'd heard Stephen through his association with other artists but didn't know he had a solo album.

It sounds like he's got a serious appreciation for George Duke. smile

George Duke would technically count as my favorite release from 2011 that I just recently purchased (...for the 3rd time). Although "Master Of The Game" was originally released in 1979, I just received the digitally remastered and expanded edition in the mail last week and have been listening to it all weekend. And while I didn't know who Sheila E. was back in 1979, she certainly comes through loud & clear when I listen to this CD today. This is one of my favorite George Duke albums.

George Duke - Master of The Game

ooh!

is this good??

I was gonna say it wasn't a great year for music, but lots of stuff on here I clearly need to check out!

Only one album really floored me this year:

Tune-Yard - Who/Kill

Honorable Mentions

Wussy - Strawberry

Mates of State - Mountaintops

Wild Flag - Wild Flag

Still need to get The Roots - pretty much always make my list.

Love those two tracks also. Actually, love every song on the album. But my favorite cut has always been "Games", especially the intro (...couldn't find a YouTube clip of it though).

I'm sure you'd like that one along with the James Carter Organ Trio.

This is a 10-inch from SA-RA's Shafiq Husayn and Om'Mas Keith - not exactly an album, but a part of a great series by Irish label All City Records.

Forgot about Givers - sure they have that whole hipster/car commercial thing going on, and this isn't even close to the best song on the album - but no new pop band showed more joy in just playing music together this year

Those of you who have more than two albums on your list are poseurs who just

want to enumerate albums you listened to for the sake of enumerating albums

you listened to. People are so silly...

My favorite album was Van Hunt's What Where You Hoping For?.

nobody's list is enumerated, look it up. 'favorite' does not imply 'single'. the title of the thread specifies 'albums'. are you done?

The OP exempted, whom I'm slightly familiar with, I must say; I also wondered how many people were just listing CD's and posting covers from music that they looked-up as having been released this year, without having actually taken time to get into those releases song by song. Not passing judgment, just something I wondered also.

Speaking only for myself; purchasing a dozen CD's in one year is sort of a lot, and rarely would all of them be from the current year (...probably only 2 or 3 would be, max). That being said, these days I'm sure I probably "obtain" more music by other means than from the actual purchase of a physical CD.
