I listened to samples from the Something About April album because the cover looked interetsing in your post, tA. It's hot. I may get that one soon.

What is your opinion of Raphael Saadiq's Stone Rollin'? It has gotten a lot of good press.

I'll post my own top 20 next week after I purchase my final two albums of the year.

Adrian Younge has a nice thing happening.
Cool follow up to the Black Dynamite soundtrack.

You know, I listen to Stone Rollin' when it was released and although I thought some of it was happening, nothing really stuck at the time.
Maybe I should give it another listen.

Ample proof that good music is still being produced, recorded, and released. So well presented in a nicely formatted post as well. Had almost forgotten about that Oz Noy release being out now, gotta pick that up. I'm a big fan of Keith Jarrett, Pat Metheny, and Marcus Miller too - wasn't even aware they had new music in 2011 (...been focusing too much on remastered classics lately - gotta get my head out of the past). I'm sure this is probably your "short list" no doubt. I've gotta get up on it! Thanks for putting us on.

I only have Adrian Younge's Black Dynamite OST, haven't checked the other one yet. I'm inclined to check the Deep Blue Organ Trio too hmmm

TBH though, I haven't done that much digging around as far as 2011 releases are concerned. I was already content with Rahsaan Patterson's Bluephoria(Which I still think its his best).

I might give those a listen later.

Very nice release. Listened to this last night.
I'd heard Stephen through his association with other artists but didn't know he had a solo album.

It sounds like he's got a serious appreciation for George Duke. smile

Yeah his session work is great too. I've pretty much found myself enjoying most of the Brainfeeder releases this year. More so than Stones Throw with this being a great exception:

George Duke would technically count as my favorite release from 2011 that I just recently purchased (...for the 3rd time). Although "Master Of The Game" was originally released in 1979, I just received the digitally remastered and expanded edition in the mail last week and have been listening to it all weekend. And while I didn't know who Sheila E. was back in 1979, she certainly comes through loud & clear when I listen to this CD today. This is one of my favorite George Duke albums.

Marcus Miller - A Night in Monte Carlo

Marcus Miller is such a great artist and I'm ashamed to not have noticed that he came out with an album this year (especially with Roy Hargrove in there!). Though I've been collecting just about every DVD and TV-rips of his gigs.

I want to be Bobby Sparks. Here he is with Roy Hargrove's RH Factor:

Marcus Miller - A Night in Monte Carlo

Marcus Miller is such a great artist and I'm ashamed to not have noticed that he came out with an album this year (especially with Roy Hargrove in there!). Though I've been collecting just about every DVD and TV-rips of his gigs.

I want to be Bobby Sparks. Here he is with Roy Hargrove's RH Factor:

Props to theAudience for great taste... Marcus has been a favorite of mine for years (as much as I love David Sanborn, I used to buy Dave's albums based on how much involvement Marcus had with the writing and production). FYI... technically, "A Night in Monte Carlo" was released in September of 2010.

Nice! Didn't think anyone else here appreciated this release. Good to know I'm not alone. Big Yes fan (most, if not all incarnations of the band). One of my favorites is Drama. To Drama and Trevor Horn fans, Fly From Here is definitely a nice gift and a pleasant surprise. Never thought Horn would ever do anything with the band again. I appreciate Jon Anderson (his voice is irreplaceable), but his lyrics were just getting too cheesy for me.

The sample track I heard sounds nice. Cool keys.

Thanks P.

Unfortunately, I didn't start compiling this list until 3/4 of the way into the year.

I'm sure there are some I missed that may come to me in time.

Nothing wrong at all with being aware of past releases.

There's so much good stuff out there. Old and new.

to me no competition so far (that is if bootlegs of Prince do not count - than it's Melkweg second night), but 'undun' - The Roots has floored me.... but I have to wait another week for Common 'The Dreamer/The Believer' to be sure. Good second/third smile is 'Bad As Me' - Tom Waits
