It also comes down to the artist having a relationship with their fans

Prince has attained his in several ways. The countless shows he's invited fans to at Paisley Park, doing intimate concerts, interacting with fans, at the same time, he's set boundaries. Plus the whole going after fansites and suing fans was a burn, but overall he definitely appreciates his fans

Michael interacted with fans and would hang out with them at times. There's some fans that I know who spent time with him at Neverland and had dinner with him on occasions. Those are some of the reasons why many fans are so protective of him (some are OVER protective). He was always receptive towards the fans from the very calm and collected to the ones who would come to him DRESSED JUST LIKE HIM and using his mannerisms lol

Madonna seems to always have open communication with her fans and that's a great thing. They're not afraid to be critical and tell her what they think and she's has no problem telling them what she thinks

Again your definition. Sexy is sexy, it starts with an attitude, clothes on or off Madonna is sexy

Are U male or female?

Madonna arguably was sexy...but back then she was more classy about it....

I am male but just because I don't find a 53 year old cavorting around in a leotard sexy doesn't mean i'm gay.

And it's not about age either, Helen Mirren is old but she's damn sexy, because she is subtle and classy about it..

All i'm saying is that Madge would be hotter if she stopped trying so hard to be sexy and 'down with the kids'....

[Edited 12/6/11 10:09am]

when are you saying she was classy about it? She's always dressed classy, and concert outfits is something different

Even back inthe 1990's people were telling her she was slut and dressed slutty, so I don't know how she can win with people trying to define her. But if she followed your trend she would be a wash by now

Random and off topic, I realize, but I don't get the Helen Mirren thing. Maybe its because she looks like my Grandmother looked about 15 years ago - I think she's way too old these days. I'm not an ageist in the least, but I don't have a thing for Grandmothers, either.

My remark: Michael Jackson has been lypsynching on stage for the last 15 years of his careeer or so. Hysterical reaction by MJ-fams: No, look at it, he is only lipsynching half of the songs! Or... he was to ill, sick, addicted whatever to sing properly, so that is why he lipsynched.

15 years sounds like an exaggeration. He hasn't even been on stage since 2002ish. But I must say I agree with what you're trying to say to an extent and I don't buy into "he's a perfectionist he didn't wanna make any mistakes or go off keys when his throat was hurting" type of excuses. For that reason HIStory tour has always been my least favorite tour.

My remark: why did MJ bleach his skin and use so much plastical surgery? Hysterical reaction by MJ-fams: But don't you know allready, he did suffer from Virtiligo! Yes, i know other persons who suffered from that disease, but none of them did bleach their skin or felt the need to 'rebuilt' their face....

Having vitiligo is one thing but to be under the spotlight for what, at least 40 freaking years? Can you imagine having such severe skin condition AND having that enormous pressure to look picture perfect because you are the most popular celebrity who gets photographed everywhere you go 24/7? None of us walked in his shoes. We can only imagine what he must've been through..

My remark: It isnt quite healthy for a 40 yo male to sleep with children, right? Hysterical reaction by MJ-fams: But, but... his daddy did bully him, he did have no childhood himself, so now he is a 'big kid' himself... Right... but i am still wondering what you would say if i you would hear these kind of 'excsuses' from any fat, white guy who isnt in 'the business'?

No I wouldn't call MJ's behavior "normal". But there are differences between being weird and being a criminal.

The fans of michael are the major defenders of his idol, this owes to that Michael always was a captivation with his fans, always.
His fans feel it as a friend and not as an untouchable idol
Michael was giving you ice creams, pizza, he you was signing autographs always, nicely, genti, adorably with his fans
On the other hand prince and madonna? Or, if prince it sues us jeje, then my I like to it as artist, if someone speaks something badly on him do not matter for myself, but MJ uuuuuuh do not touch it.

I remember a friend of mine who hated Michael with all his soul, until it saw it in person in the vegas in 2007, he is a fan of madonna and has had the opportunity to two times know her to her, and madonna at least I do not even lo

So true. Michael always seemed very sweet and down to earth with his fans. He never forgot to thank the fans for his success every time he did an interview or won an award. I remember seeing old footages on youtube where crazy fans attacked him tried to hug him and I was surprised how cool MJ reacted....He genuinely hugs his craziest fans and thanks them. Who.freaking.does.that? I can imagine Prince running away like crazy if his fans ever behaved like MJ's fans lol. And Madonna... I don't know. Might actually hug her fan, turn around and say something like "he absolutely reeked like bloody hydrangeass"...*accidentally*

Your jaded views on women's sexulity are depressing.

No they are not. An older woman's power is in her mystery and subtlety, not in shoving it in people's faces (at Madge's age she needs to turn down the overt ness and bring up the mystery - she could learn from P in that respect).

Hmmm.

Madonna is Madonna, and that will never change, she is not afraid to push boundaries and she has a great figure and doesn't look like 53 at all... She looks hot and I think she is not a slut and she look classy. On stage she does wear less clothes, but that totally fit with her personality on stage. She is a rebel and always will be.

I know Madonna fans from here and other forums and yes they are quite critical of her work when needed

As I'm both a MJ and Prince fan, I can say fans can be VERY critical of their work. Not all MJ fans worship him and his music. I loved the man and his work but I sure as hell wasn't gonna sit outside in the cold his damn hotel and sing "Heal The World" like I know some folks did (and I know some who really did that lol ) and I and many others criticized him many times for not putting out more music or focusing on other matters (like trying to build theme parks, movie companies, and shit like that)

Prince, I'm critical of too, but I've seen on this site, fans being maybe TOO harsh on the guy. At times it feels like hating just for the sake of hating

Uh hum rolleyes lol

Every artist gets the fanbase they deserve. Including Prince.

Prince has a lot of whiny little bitch fans, because he can be a whiny little bitch too. On the other hand he has a lot of cool, intelligent, funny, sophisticated and fine music loving fans too, because so can he be. Prince is twisted himself like that and so is his fanbase. All that crap between 'fams' and 'naysayers' bitching at eachother whenever they can, came out of Prince's kitchen.

MJ and Madonna's fan bases are different because they are different. MJ's fans always worshipped him because he always worshipped them. Madonna's fans are critical about her music too, but less than Prince fans because Madonna herself is less critical about her music than Prince is about his. His standards have always been higher, therefore also his fans always expect more of him. And so on. smile

I miss michael sad And you know what I miss too? Though I still have the emotional attachment, I'm afraid of it fading cause of being in too much pain over the fact I never met him or saw him though I came very very close. I had chances to travel to see him years ago too at non-music events, but turned it down and wanted to wait for music though I love him as a person too, I regret it now. I wanted to give him space and wait and not hound him if not necessary though I would watch clips of fans meeting him and get excited. I can't feel it now though. I don't mean to sound jealous, but I have been since the death and didn't know I had it in me, cause I was so sure my time would come.

There is power in mystery whether you're young or old. Prince tries to be mysterious now, but it just comes off as selfish. Back in the 1980's when he was young his mystery was what made him a megastar.

Not shoving what in peoples faces? Again your trying to control womens sexuality. no different than chastity belts, female circumcision, and women having to cover their bodies from head to toe.

If you are really a fan of Madonna you must realize she has turned down the overtness, for whatever that means. Have you ever seen any of her concerts? Seriously? the Drowned World tour... what was 'overt' about that? Madonna has not been overtly sexual showing more than she should have... What she shows some leg and that offends you? Please don't tell me you go to beaches

"I find whenever someone writes anything about me, my age is right after my name," she said. "It's almost like they're saying, 'Here she is, but remember she's this age, so she's not that relevant anymore.' Or 'Let's punish her by reminding her and everyone else.'

Adding, "When you put someone's age down, you're limiting them. To have fun, that's the main issue. To continue to be a provocateur, to do what we perceive as the realm of young people, to provoke, to be rebellious, to start a revolution."

She said something similar to this on a talk show back in 1994

“Not only does society suffer from racism and sexism but it also suffers from ageism. Once you reach a certain age you’re not allowed to be adventurous, you’re not allowed to be sexual. I mean, is there a rule? Are you supposed to just die?”

I always loved that quote.

Anyone who thinks about themselves in that way and even their parents, should wake up.

I don't want my mom to turn into an old hag, she was and has always been beautiful and likes to have fun and dance wear her hair down and flirt with my dad. I want them (saying this as fully aware man) to have fun dance have sex until they leave this earth.

My 70 yr old aunt looks like she is in her early 50's she swims, walks miles a day, and is working out with weights... she's a learner still loves to talk with younger people, she understands how muscle tone or lack of it can effect her health and she wants to live a long life looking good and having her mind intact

Once people stop living that is really when they become old and die.

I agree with Madonna, though I could just smack myself for thinking she was old during ROL when I was just in high school, though I was still a fan. Now I just cringe cause she wasn't at all, though that's probably cause I'm getting close to 30, and despise it when kids think of me as "aunty" or something

Exactly. I don't like that people are so close minded.

People are always whining about Madonna her looks. But I don't see what's wrong with her looks.

Correct, and some of that choice is actually influenced by ignorant ideas that you can't be sexy after a certain again, that you have to cover your body after a certain age, even if you look good, that you cut your hair and get a granny cut etc etc
