Do you think Madonna (OR formerly MJ fans) bitch as much about their idol?

Just wondering if in the Madonna forums you get people complaining about her business / lack of albums (last one was 2008) or do you think they are more gushing and respectful?

Also MJ...were they more cohesive or do you think they were split down the middle due to those believing he was up to no good and those who thought he was an angel...

If I was a Madonna fan i would say:

1) Why are you trying to chase trends?

2) What happened to the 80s sound?

3) Is gyrating in leotards dignified for a 53 year old? Is it sexy? Because to me that's not sexy...

4) Why such a long gap between albums?

(I suppose 1 and 2 apply to P too !)

I think Madonna was cool in the 80s but i never really 'got' the whole 1997 new sound/reinvention thing, to me she changed into a totally different artist.

I remember there used to be a lot of rivalry on here between Prince and MJ fans, especially around the HIStory and Emancipation eras...i guess I feel sorry for them a bit now as we still have our idol (for want of a better word) and they don't..

To me, there's no need to argue, they are both talented people in their own way, but I prefer Prince just as some people prefer one food to another food.

MJ fans come across as worshippers and see nothing wrong in anything he ever did. Total and absolute devotion.

Madonna fans can be critically but they don't let it rule them or destroy their attitude towards her. They still will shell out mad dollars to see their idol!

Prince fans are actually 2 kinds and vastly different, there's the fans who have moved along with Prince throughout his career and still value his output and then there's the fans who got stuck around 1993-1995 and feel betrayed by everthing released since on a deep personal level.

When eye go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all heart up in the house but when eye log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

PEOPLE bitch about MUSIC, period. Its rampant and its everywhere. Go read the comments on any music site, industry site, equipment site or artist site. A vast majority of all comments are hating on the music, artist, industry or equipment in question. If not, they're complaining about somebody elses music, art, industry or equipment. I'll stop short of calling it hate, because it doesn't all go that far (although a lot of it does). But its definitely an epidemic and its clear that its growth has largely been fueled by the ability of the everyman to say whatever they want, whenever they want in every corner of the internet.

Jonylawson, now you know that is a very narrow view of things

Madonna fans unsophisticated? Just about every photographer M & F, fashion styler M & F adores her. Name a female magazine that doesn't want her on their cover or doing spreads on her? Madonna probably has a larger fan base than Prince. You probably should just do a look thru of her life catalogue to see how far off you are. David Letterman is a fan not homosexual, and Prince admires her as well. Yeah Britney Spears & Christina Aguilera are middle aged... oops

And I don't the sell out shows she put on all over the world are full of homosexuals

MJ fans run that ranges of kids to people in their 70's and 80's. I really can believe your saying this. Also Prince admires MJ

What trends are she chasing?

What 80's sound? How could she stay with an 80's sound?

As she said herself why is that a person has to stop being sexy or sexual once they pass an age (ageism) Yes at 53 she still has it and people love it

what period of time was there long gaps between albums? 2 easily answer that look at what was going on in her life.

She released Sticky Sweet and did the tour the tour was such a hit and sell out that she did Sticky Sweet 2 and continued into the next years time

she got married-divorced, had a child, got married again & had another child.

I don't see how she really could have stayed the same artist she was in the 1980s yet she really is doing the same thing yet on a bigger scale

Being a fan of all 3:

MJ fans don't bitch because MJ was sweet

Not that much. This has to do with the fact that Prince shows potential on a lot of different levels, but isn't able to live up to it, because of his I-wanna-do-it-all-mentality. In the end he keeps being a pop whore.

I think MJ fans were more devoted to the person than Prince fans; with Prince fans it's more about the music. People saw Michael from his childhood and onwards and even as an adult he seemed a bit childlike. He was also treated badly by the tabloids. These aspects probably made fans become especially protective of him.

Prince's musical output is more diverse than most which leads to admiration but also to more division. Some love almost everything, some are very critical of his music after the mid 90s, some think Lovesexy is a great album, some are lukewarm, some think the name change was a good idea, some don't etc.

There are also a few on the org that are too negative. If that's how someone feels then he/she will be more productive by directing their attention more to other things.

As a one time prince fan I disagree with this. Prince went one way and I went another. I don't feel betrayed or any such nonsense. My taste changed. I still own everyhing that he has put out cause there is always something interesting for the most part on something he's released. I just enjoy other artists more the older I got.

The whole JW/religious thing was disheartening cause of his need to change the past instead of just letting it go. That was my only real rolleyes moment I've ever had bout the lil dude.

Prince fans bitch about him the way they do for two reasons:

1. He has no quality control and has released a large wealth of shockingly mediocre material

2. He doesn't exactly come across as a likeable person

Contary to popular belief, not all MJ fans are obsessive loons who carry around caged doves and think he is the second coming - although obviously, those fans do exist. Prince has those kind of fans too - just look at all the weirdos who became JW's post 2001 and reply to threads with similarly non-sensical, cryptic, pseudo-Christian ramblings just like their idol.

Some adults including the "musicans musician" Prince who has called MJ a genius and covered his songs in concerts?

You reak of musical snobbery of the worst kind... It makes me laugh how you think you're musically superior because you like Prince. You do realise it wasn't you who learned to play all those instruments and wrote all that music?? You appreciating Prince's music has nothing to do with your own IQ or level of sophistication whatsoever.

In terms of Prince attracting a more diverse and sophisticated fanbase, I would argue that at least 95% of the age-group of fans at the numerous Prince concerts I've attended were aged 30-40. Whereas MJ attracts fans of all ages as his obviously God-given talent translates on a mass level to any generation.

why do you assume i dislike MJ-i dont.i love some of his songs but the fact remains that Prince is usually associated musically with ellington or miles or sly.MJ is not known for "musicianship"per se rather than stellar performance

Whether you choose to classify him as a musician or not, he was and still is internationally recognised for being insanely gifted musically, as a songwriter, a vocalist and an entertainer. Anybody can learn to play a few different instruments to a competant level. Would you call Lenny Kravitz more talented than Michael Jackson just because he can strum a few chords and play the drums?

I wager that the vast majority of people outside of fanboards would say MJ was equally as talented as Prince or moreso.

I've seen MJ fans say Madonna is not a musician or diverse and stuff like that. That really bothers me. Another excuse for them to not like her is cause of In The Closet not working out. Who cares if she got mean in one interview after? She hated everyone who didn't sleep with her in 1991 *cough* Antonio Banderas lol And she always had good things to say about him before and after, even before the death.

I don't go on Madonna forums anymore, but they weren't complaining about her new work, they all really enjoyed it for the most part and were wishing certain songs were getting more airplay, and she's bigger outside the US anyways, so it was about the success, like Confessions was huge in Canada compared to the US. They were pretty mean to MJ though, I know Princey fans are mean to at times to people though I don't think it's vicious, but Madonna fans are vile when they do it.

Back to MJ fans, I've met all kinds, good apples and bad apples, and I'll leave it at that.

I agree that Prince can be a jerk sometimes....but I love him for it and respect him for not following the crowd always, and he's sweet anyway.

Emancipation89

I thought a lot of MJ fans weren't happy about Invincible, History tour lip sync, the documentary he did and the trial...I really don't think most of MJ fans worship him in a way that all his songs were great, he had no flaws, he was always the victim etc. Not letting the media and tabloids brainwash you is not equal to unreasonably defending the man. And I think after his death he's had a lot of newer younger fans and they(and the public) just like to focus on all the positive things and cultural legacy he left behind but the same goes to Freddie Mercury and Elvis doesn't it.

Some Prince fans love to claim that they only care about music which is bs. I've seen a lot of them complaining about his attitude towards fans-how he shows no respect to them, what ridiculous cult JW is, and so on rolleyes

She has been tracing the silly R&B trend / Timberlake shit, ie. think of '4 minutes'...(P has also been guilty of that recently with damn autotune).

People like Prince and Madonna should be making new trends not copying other trends already out there.

The 80s sound is what made her good IMO, since 97 she hasn't really been 'Madonna' but a different artist as far as I can see, but her fans seem to lap it up....

I don't think people stop being sexy after a certain age.....look at Nigella Lawson or the actress Helen Mirren, she's freakin hot and she's late 60s...

BUT you can be dignified about it and Madonna spreading her legs in leotards and fishnets at 53 is just not sexy but smacks of desperation....

She can still be sexy, but be more subtle about it....(maybe like Prince is now)
