No it IS the same thing... Yes she DOES have talent to compensate for it.. She is a great entertainer and a very good technical dancer especially for a singer. While I would not call her a genius or a genius song writer she has co written and has written classic hits with social conscience and above average lyrics. ONCE AGAIN this discussion is not about comparing Janet to other artists this was about her and Beyonce. We both have already established that neither of them are innovative so you can stop bringing up other artists to validate that against Janet.

No Janet has not written alot of her hits on her own. To be technical she has only been reported on record to have written only one song by her self and that was Black Cat which ironically was a hit on her Rhythm Nation C.D. However, she has a fairly strong influential catalogue primarily consisting of four main albums Control, RN, Janet and VR 90% of all the songs on EACH of those albums are classics. Her most important works, Rhythm Nation, has by far been her most influential as far as music videos, performances and music goes.. I am not obsessed with it. I brought those things up to reveal a point. I undestand the awards and chart positions dont mean anything in this generation. However, it does reflect the decline of the music industry the fact that artists such as Queen and Diana Ross dont have ANY grammys but there are artists like Beyonce who have alot of grammys.. I brought it up because you didnt find Beyonce to be overrated which simply means rated or rewarded MORE than what they exactly deserve and Beyonce is definitly overrated.

Michael Jackson is my favorite artist of all time. My love for him goes beyond his incredible dancing and music. I love him as a person because he was a beautiful person and I idenitfy with him as well as connect with him in alot of ways which is why I defend so hard for him and his music. I agree that Janets older music is better in fact that is where all her influence and classics lies which is what I posted above. However you do make biased statements regarding Janet which is why I lashed out at you. You finally admitted that Beyonce isnt a legend and that Beyonce music is mediocre which is the ONLY point I was originally trying to make.

All the other comparisions I never denied although Beyonce does not even write ANY of her songs. Also, Janet is far more creative than Beyonce artistically and at one time took risks musically Beyonce has never done that. Beyonce would never try to collab with a opera singer or touch bases on homosexuality or something controversial.. She is very predictable and formulatic.

No Janet is not the greatest singer in the world and no she has not written ALL her songs but she does have a nice tone and on her older songs sung on key, is a very talented technical dancer and entertainer, was creative artistically at one point and at one point musically. As of right now she is very underrated as far as her influence in how female pop stars conduct their performances. While I think Janet is a weak vocalist I dont think she is a horrible singer. Her last couple of albums did no justice for her voice because she was not singing just talking, I thought they were bad overall.

Beyonce is a descent singer I'll give her that and she is vocally more talented than Rihanna, Brittany, Perry BUT she isnt a great singer though. I would never put her on a greatest vocals list. She has a pretty average octave range which is nothing special, she yells and screams, oversings and strains alot and is always off key. But if people find tha impressive than thats people lol Everyone is free to have their opinion. I personally dont see anything special about her voice because their are much better technical singers of her generation with broader ranges.

The difference is that I do not give Janet loans, which give you. I do not put it on par with legends. Her music was created in an era when music was generally much better and heartier, than now, so many of her songs are good in melody and lyrics (which do not change the fact that they are filled with a terrible voice and listen to it - painful to the ears).

In this discussion I have never called Janet a legend. I mentioned legends in general but never called Janet that. No I dont make excuses for Janet either but if we are comparing a more mediocre artist to Janet than yes Janet is superior to Beyonce.. Janet is superior to Rihanna, Janet is superior to Perry etc... She has a much better catalogue, influence and I find her to be more entertaining live.

That last statement you made clearly shows your biasedness and shows why you do not prefer Janet. Which IS FINE.

I rather listen to a weak vocalist singing about the state of the world, prejudice and social concepts than a descent singer talking about grinding on her man, girls who run the fuckin world, put a ring on it... I rather listen to something with substance and songs I CAN IDENTIFY with ....take that shit to the club because thats all its good for lol because its definitly not going to be playing 40 50 years from now BUT if you like it okay
