Because Britney and Madonna were not crammed downed our throats at every given opportunity (I can't even name one Britney Spears song). In the 80's, the media treated Micheal like he was a God! At that time, no other artist was put on a pedestal as much as he was (despite there being dozens of others artists who were far more talented and way better singers). I could not turn on the television, radio or read a magazine without him being thrusted upon me. Same thing with Beyonce, except I do believe she's more over-rated than he was. At least Jackson supposedly set some standards as far as being a live performer is concerned. I can't say the same for Beyonce. But, if you believe the hype, she's the best musical performer who ever lived, when, in reality, there is absolutely nothing about her alleged talent that puts her above any of these other young girls on the scene doing the exact same thing.

[Edited 11/29/11 16:08pm]

I understand the artist's ubiquity annoying, but he had a talent and a lot of skills in different areas. In addition, World Love in the '80s and early '90s gave way to worldwide hatred in the last 15 years of his life. So he became underrated if we follow your logic? cool

And really, who are these @dozens of others artists who were far more talented@? Who at the same time the better singer, dancer and songwriter than MJ? Call the names, pls!
I know many better singers, I know better dancers (although among pop / rock artists is possible that he is the best), I know a lot of the better songwriters. But not many artists have the complete package like him.

As for Beyonce, it is one of the best live performers of the last decade.
I am absolutely not her fan, I like the whole no more than 10 songs, but she has the looks, voice and energy.

I feel the presence of Rihanna and Katy Perry everywhere is much stronger than Beyonce, although she is much better artist than they are. wink So they are better examples of overrated artists. razz

Only just noticed this

Did you know Halo is a cover ?

The original is a million times better and a million times more emotive , without the

annoying straining and oversinging imo

I don't think they ever properly released it though

I can't believe they sold this song to her disbelief

I think it's brilliant

(this is a demo , there's no official video clip)

Tt was written by Ryan Tedder who probably did the demo of it for whomever was going to end up singing it. Also, songwriters hope to sell their songs to be big time stars. It's great publicity for someone and it's something awesome to put on your resume when you're looking to shop more songs around.

Omg me too!

I can not stand Thom Yorke's wailing. It drives me up the wall. Pink Floyd is meh. I always feel that music should you move you in a positive way. Any music that moves me to cut if off is just not that good to me.

Gunshalen seems to be onboard, how about you meet me halfway. Maybe "Kumbaya" was a bad idea, consider it off the table. How about this:

But what now if i say i dont give a lot about Janet Jackson?

She seems to be one of the most favourite artists on 'Music - non Prince' but all i hear is a thin-voiced singer without any character, that once was succesfull thanks to Jam and Lewis, but who seems to be overhyped on here for the last couple of yours.

She is first of all a shallow entertainer (lypsyncher, dancer), but she aint no artist or real musician.

Am i allowed to say that in here, while i show my dislike of Radiohead and Pink Floyd?

I partially agree with you. I quite enjoy a fair bit of her music but had she never met and worked with Jam and Lewis I suspect we would have heard very little from her over the last 25 years.

Janet is one of thse artists I'm indifferent to. I never got into her for some reason. I can honestly say "All For You" is the only complete Janet song I've heard and it's an okay song. I've heard bits and pieces of Control and Rythm Nation, but I wasn't that interested. Usually if I'm really into an artist, I'll youtube the crap out of them. That's how I became such a big fan of Whitney and Luther, they have tons of youtube videos. I've never 'youtubed' Janet before.

WAIT!! I take that Back! "What's It Gonna Be" with Busta Rhymes featuring Janet is my fucking shit! LOVE that song!

Well, i sometimes feel like when i am critical of Janet Jackson in here: i attack president Obama, the bible, the human existence, all thats good in life, and to me its plain nonsense, to be honest, to me Janet Jackson belong in the category of Rihanna and Katy Perry, sorry, nothing more.

Classic case of a band that is maybe not technically bad, but still just plain awful.

Even the cliche WordNumber name that everyone wore out in the 90's (Matchbox 20, Blink 182, Eve 6, Sum 41...) drives me nuts.

And now this "moowoowoowooves like Jaggar" shit shake

Thats right, isnt it:

If you dare to put any questionmark in here on Janet Jackson, El Debarge or Rick James, you will be seen as a blasphemist.

As if its still 1985?

Well yes, if you only listen to worn out disco and R and B, how can I take you serious? Stuck in life as a thirty-something?

Beyonce - Overrated. Lies about writing music. I also hate the fact that her father crushed and destroyed dreams to ensure that his daughter became a star.

Lady Gaga - Hilariously pretentious. You're a pop singer, you're not saving the world.

Lil Wayne - Colorstruck asshole. He almost ruined Take Care for me.

Nicki Minaj - This girl is straight up garbage. If I were her, I'd thank God every night that the industry is sexist and typically doesn't give female rappers a chance. I believe that if there were more female rappers out, almost no one would know that she existed.

MJ haters - Ok, I undertsand that you might not enjoy his music, but jfc come up with something new. Stop using the same tired ass arguments that have been constantly shot-down to belittle his talents and impact.

The kardashians - I know that they're not musicians, but this family is so tragic. I can't even imagine getting famous off of my own/daughter's/sister's sex tape. I'm convined that their mother, Kris, is the devil.
