Usher: Can he really sing?

I'm watching video of Usher performing at the Clinton Foundation concert and I dunno it seems like since MJ died, he's trying too hard to be the next MJ.On top of that, I'm not really sure he can sing that great and I actually like Usher. What do you guys n' girls think of Usher?

Usher is alright... but he is not his OWN artist. Spent his entire career swagger jacking MJ...

His singing is nothing impressive or unique. His an okay singer.. I dig some of his songs.

Yeah and it seems like he can't sing live at all. I'm not a musician or singer but does he sing off key a lot? Those of you who are singers/musicians, what's the deal with Usher vocally?

"Really sing" means is he really a talented vocalist, I'm not actually asking if he's singing the songs smile

It's still subjective. lol But to play along, yes, he is a really talented vocalist.

Well I guess that's why I was waiting for trained singers or musicians to chime in and give their thoughts because yeah he's entertaining but hearing him sing live can be painful sometimes smile

Usher and I both are trained singers, I've chimed in, and Usher and I both suck sometimes when we sing live, in spite of our training.

lol It's still subjective.

And MJ was trained for 30 years by one of the best coaches in the game. shake Lord knows that even MJ had his cringe worthy moments singing live.

Okay voice with so-so/nice material to sing. He's not going to be the next anything but an older Usher!

When eye go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all heart up in the house but when eye log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

He USED to sing pretty well i think. Can he sing now? NO, hell that goat sounded better lol

Him, NE-YO, Trey Songs etc. As you said are to busy riding Michaels dick and lets be honest Prince to.

Wherea s sayw hat you want about him, but at least R. Kelly CAN sing, and imo has a somewhat disntictive voice.

Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener

He can sing well for the music he produces, but the quality of that music is what I'd put into question.

Sometimes I feel bad for Usher because he gets put in the same category as Ne-Yo/Chris/Trey etc when he's better than all of them. No, he's not Tevin Campbell (Shit talk about somebody who's really underrated) but he's a very decent vocalist. And he has good records.

Yes, he can

Usher is not the best vocalist in the history, not even in top 100. lol

But not bad.

What is quality pop music?
I'm sure many of your favorite artists I absolutely do not like and vice versa ...

Very true, which is why I would ask do you think Usher makes good albums rather do you think he can sing, I think his last two albums were very bland especially compared to confessions.

usher - it's generally not my music.
I'm not a fan of Сonfessions, I do not think the music on Here I Std so much worse. Just when an artist releases an album so successful, his next album doomed to failure: a huge flop or a small flop. It's psychology, to assume that this vertex is not reachable. Nothing new. cool

Usher basically gave birth to them lol. I listen to all three (not Chris anymore) I always felt Ne-Yo had the better songs out of Trey and Chris.

IMO - no. He's not a vocalist or anything but I think he can carry a tune like the other Pop artists.

Chris is the best dancer (even better than Usher at his peak) and Ne-Yo is the top songwriter. I don't know who's the greater singer out of the three. I honestly don't. They're all subpar to me but I guess it would be between Chris & Ne-Yo. Goat No Songz does ABSOLUTELY NOTHING for me in no arena. The nerve to come at R. Kelly.

eek that would have been hot, literally. However, I used to think Prince copied Michael, and then I grew up.

Usher was a strong child singer, but unfortunately by the time he came out he was already going through a vocal change, so it wasn't as strong.

He has a mediocre voice now, but the material on his albums are not great, but better than average cuts, so even if his vocals are mediocre, the music more than makes up for it.

Also, I never saw him as a MJ wannabe, not even a protegee. Some like Chris Brown and Ginuwine are blatantly MJ influenced, but not Usher. Matter of fact, if my memory serves me correctly, Usher was seen as the "new Bobby Brown" or R Kelly, somebody with a more sexual edge than MJ because Usher was a young dude but he had material that was sexually charged and his stage performance was more of a sexual; bumping and grinding on stage, taking his shirt off and pulling his pants down, he later on adopted the suit and hat/sliding and gliding and "flare for the dramatics" like MJ.

Yeah I had both My Way and the Bachelor, the latter was much more creative with better vocals, and then came Same Ol' G and then more hits. I don't keep up with him now but if I hear something, I do like it. And the old geezer lied about his age, unforgivable! lol Also, that horrible remake of When Doves Cry with the creepy video was a nightmare, how the hell did Prince approve that shi.t? Was this all happening cause he was still a symbol?

I don't think he was a strong child singer at all. He was very weak to me. He was at his peak when he was approaching his early 20s.

8701 vocals >>>> Everything else.
