Black Tie White Noise (single)- David Bowie

one of his best late-career singles? why do you think this great single was a flop in 1993?

Definitely it's a great tune. I like all the album, actually.

I think it is a brilliant song but not a very good single in commercial terms. Not radio friendly enough.

Also, I think Bowie hadn't a place in the pop music world back in 1993. The 80's, with its commercial successes and its flops, were far away, and people got confused with the Tin Machine project. Actually, he started to regain his place with Black Tie, White Noise.

The Britpop explosion, beginning with the heavily Bowie-influenced Suede, also contributed to put Bowie back in the musical map.

Underrated single & album, this album was not meant for commercial play defintley.

Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener

All music is shit music and no music is real- gunsnhalen

Big fan of this album... but not this track. It's by far my least favorite from this period. Just never worked for me.

I like the song okay, but it's not a very good single. It's extremely cheesy and Al B. Sure was well past his sell-by date at this point.

the follow-up single Miracle Goodnight, while also a song that I like, is even more cheesy.

very poor single selections (after "Jump They Say") from this album that was supposed to be a big comeback.

"Don't Let Me Down & Down" and "I Know It's Gonna Happen Someday" would have made much better choices.

Or even "You've Been Around" -- which came in alternate mixes and could have been a club hit AND a decent stab at trying to get on modern rock radio.

I'd have gone:

1. Jump the Say

2. Nite Flights

3. You've Been Around

4. Miracle Goodnight

with the singles
