Funny that you should mention My Love is Your Love as that is one of her most critically acclaimed albums. It won her a Grammy and had 3 top 5 singles and 4 top 20 singles, not to shabby and several dance #1s:

This is one of my fav cds by her. Some of the unreleased cuts were the best. Her collabo with Lauryn Hill on the Stevie Wonder song, 'I was made to love him' was stellar. BabyFace producing 'until you come back to me' was quite a torch song and Rodney Jerkins on 'Get it back ' was fantasic. The music was the bomb but never took over from her voice.

That cd still sounds current today. In some ways if you listen, that album pretty much told her life story before the divorce.

That is not 100% true. Whitney was singing 'The Greatest Love Of All' before she was signed or before Clive signed or saw her. She was singing that song when she was performing with her mother at Sweetwaters club.

clive didn't choose that song. Also, according to Narada Michael Walden, Clive didnt' want to record 'For the Love of You' but Whitney really wanted to and insisted on it being recorded.

From her own words, she has said that both she and clive pick songs together. She has said that they go in a room for hours and hours and go over songs and they agree together. Clive gets a little too much credit sometimes.

I was made to love him was chosen by Whitney as Stevie Wonder is one of her favorite artists. I know him so well- whitney has said that she and her mom would leave NJ and go in to NY many, many times to watch broadway plays. That song came from the show, Chess'. I doubt clive picked that. I'd bet that was Whitney and Cissy who chose that as they collaborated on that song.

^ Wasn't Whitney an executive producer on ALL her albums? Obviously she's credited as such on later albums.

I would like to know exactly who you people are listening to? Yes, she used to have a really good voice. Her greatness is up for debate. But, for the past 10+ years, she's been sounding like shit! She's constantly hoarse. So I don't understand why her fans continue to say she continues to be such a great live performer when she sounds like Kermit the Frog most of the time.

I shit on those folks too. I see it like this, if it weren't for Shitney, there would be no folks like Beyonce or these current acts. They come from years of influence of artists who were influenced by other artists after Shitney changed music for the worst. If it weren't for Shitney, folks would still be influenced by funk artists, or at least they would have for a little longer before it would have eventually gone out of style on it's own without some little goodie two shoes becoming so successful and abruptly changing things with her influence.

And for killing funk, and for making the adult contemporary genre "cool" which was previously considered "uncool" (and it should have been considered "uncool"), and since so many adult contemporary "family friendly" acts flooded R&B and killed funk, the flood gates were wide open for shit hop to come in and fill the rebellion void that was left after funk was killed. And since everyone was making slow to midtempo adult contemporary music at the time, naturally, the shit hop was also going to be slow to midtempo. In other words, the little goodie two shoes killed everything fun and funky in music. Give me a few minutes and I'll find something else to blame on her ass too.
