Would you call George Clinton a GREAT singer?

Not sure, but to my ear, he doesn't have much range.

I don't think anyone take George seriously as a great singer. lol

George is who he is. A master of sound and the creator of zany funk.

Don't laugh at my funk
This funk is a serious joint

George's role in his career wasn't to be a great singer at all, it was to be a revolutionary and he accomplished that. He knew his voice was fucked up, that's why he hired the best singers and musicians he can find. He was a great ORGANIZER, something that needs to be addressed. nod

George Clinton a great singer? Nope, but I LOVE his vocals. Listen to "Tribute To Garry Shider" on Bootsy Collins' latest CD, where George explains: "Damn, I wish I could sang. I'd make the funkiest sound your ears would ever wanna hear." Don't worry George! You ALREADY make the funkiest sound my ears would ever wanna hear!

Not great maybe, but he is a very cool singer with a distinctive voice, and one of the great frontmen.

I can really hear it in places like Freaky Styley, the Red Hot Chili Pepper album he produced. Anthony Keidis is not the best singer (especially back then) and there are a few moments where George sings a line or two, and makes you wish he sang the whole album.

around 1:20 here

And take a song like Atomic Dog, that is a crazy vocal, all over the place, and with a huge range.

and of the P-Funk singers, he is my favorite

I love his vocals, much rather listen to him than most of the vapid bs out there. Thanks for posting his early Parliaments material, he kept that attention to vocals even as the music evolved into something else. He's an orchestrator and arranger extraordinaire. Promentalshitbackwashpsychosis Enema Squad is one of his best arrangements.

George to me is as timmy out it a great organizer!, to me I always compare him & david lee roth a lot. Maybe there not singing with the most beautiful, tear drop inducing tones. But there energetic, wild front man with very distinct voices cool

Indeed, DLR was the best frontman but Sammy was the best singer.

I'd compare Clinton to Springsteen in terms of marathon shows and putting together great bands. When you go to either show, you know you're coming out feeling you got your moneys worth of entertainment for the night.
