I'd rank all 3 white boys as so:

1. Robin Thicke - great falsetto but actually has a real voice that can be used

2. Justin Timberlake - nice falsetto and and average voice but he uses it efficiently

3. Adam Levine - all he has is that falsetto, the weakest of the bunch but I love him just the same

I agree. Robin is BY FAR the best singer out of these three, but I disagree about Justin's falsetto. I'm a fan of his ever since '98, but Justin's falsetto is AWFUL to me and it's only gotten worse over time. It's so forced and whiney. "My Love" is a good example of this. His falsetto is just painful for me to listen to in that song. JC was always the best singer in the group anyway.

Adam Levine, I like his music, but I'm not at all impressed with him as a vocalist.

Right, Adam makes great music with the band but I would never throw him into a vocal battle lol I love My Love so I obviously feel otherwise. lol I love his falsetto especially on Gone. razz

also to be fair he said he'd have been "heard as a solo artist".... never said anything about going double plat. lol

Before *NSYNC or even 90's Mickey Mouse Club, Justin Timberlake used to do solo performances with some tight jean, a cowboy hat, leather boots & a boyish country hick accent.

If you don't believe me, looking up on a classic episode of Star Search! There was no way in hell Justin would have made under those circumstances at all.

You're missing the point. Flav would have NEVER been a celebrity without Public Enemy. Justin Timberlake would have NEVER been a celebrity without *NSYNC.

End of.

At the end of the day its a moot point. One cant go back and say Justin would or wouldnt have made it as a young solo artist. Speculation isnt reality.

Which is kind of funny, considering Robin's parents were pretty well known celebs back in the 80s and "soulful" is not the first thing that comes to mind when discussing Gloria Loring or Alan Thicke.

I don't know, the Growing Pains theme is kinda soulful. touched

The Facts Of Life theme (Season 2-6) also has that memorable bassline! This was also written & composed by Loring/Thicke. cool

MJ, Dre, and Freddie would have certainly been just as big without their groups. I wonder why you even put MJ on the list considering the long time period between Jackson 5 success and solo success. It was music videos and groundbreaking songs on MJs 2nd solo album that made him big, not Jackson 5.

Dre is known for production, if you make an album as hot as The Chronic (Which was groundbreaking as well) then it will be very succesful group or not.

rolleyes @ your lack of knowledge

BTW, Michael has solo albums BEFORE Off The Wall & Thriller. But that can be discussed in the Michael Thread that the mods still have as a sticky.

Just like Michael's career started as a member of The Jackson 5, Justin's career started as a member of *NSYNC.

So please, don't be so naive. Studying your music history.

Not like today...

And I'll tell you what was the REAL reason that led to JRT's stardom...

These two tracks where the first Nsync tracks I actually saw on BET and urban radio.

and gave Nsync and Justin Urban cred.

Justin Timberlake is nothing more than a poor mans Robin Thicke.

Justin would have not nearly been as popular without his group which is primarily why he was so well received when he broke out.

I dont know what is up with these solo artists who were recently in groups neutral Why do they feel the need to validate their talent or status. Just go with the flow and enjoy what you do. These artists of this generation are so big headed and the sad part is their music is garbage

In all dead seriously, legend has it that Lou Perlmans did a lot more than just put his "paws" on the young artists that he professonally took take of over the years.

I don't kind how much of it is true or not. But if it is true, then THAT bastard should have been in prison a lot earlier in life.

Nah, JT doesn't have the pipes to be a 'Robin Thicke type'. lol

Which isn't to say he can't sing, but compared to Robin he can't.

i don't agree... i'd put them pretty even vocally. confused

I have heard each perform on "live" tv broadcasts: 1) Mr. Thicke was in very poor voice each time, and I wouldn't get out of bed to see him live if you were to pay me. However, I would wait right there in the bed for him to come around though, cause that is one beautiful man IMHO. And I am thinking that he just had a bad day or two performing, so I might see him live if you were to pay me. 2) Justin tore it up! He will always have a sorry look, and a poorer voice and peformance quality based soley on his selling out Janet at the Superbowl - so be it.

Nsync gave him lots of exposure. Not to mention, he already had an established fanbase. Also, he lucked out working with top producers. He does have charisma but he is an asshole! He should just make music (oh wait, he's an actor now) and shut his trap.

Aw, Flav had his moments. "Motherfuck him and John Wayne," while comic relief for sure, is a crucial line in their biggest statement. And while his feature songs like "911 Is a Joke" and "Can't Do Nuttin' for Ya Man" are novelties, they're certainly not without merit.
