George Harrison Doc Airing in October
July 14, 2011
HBO has picked up rights to the Martin Scorsese-directed music doc George Harrison: Living in the Material World.
Scorsese, who will also produce with Harrison's widow, Olivia Harrison, and Nigel Sinclair, has long had an affinity with rock 'n' roll. He previously helmed the Rolling Stones concert film Shine a Light and the 1978 documentary on the Band, The Last Waltz.
Living in the Material World, which focuses on the early life of the famed Beatle as well as his solo career after the band split up, will debut in two parts Oct. 5 and 6.
Those interviewed for their reflections on Harrison's life include Eric Clapton, George Martin, Paul McCartney, Yoko Ono, Tom Petty, Phil Spector and Ringo Starr.
"When Martin Scorsese brings a project to HBO, we all know it is going to be very special," said HBO programming prexy Michael Lombardo.
"George Harrison was a true Renaissance man, and this amazing film will illuminate every aspect of his remarkable, multifaceted life."

I wonder if they're gonna talk about his fascination with NASCAR. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton | |
