Point/Counterpoint: Captain and Tenille vs. Joy Division Most of you will never remember this, but in the 1970's there used to be a segment on the PBS news hour called "Point/Counterpoint" where a couple of pundits would argue opposing viewpoints of some issue of the day. It was the precursor for CNN's "Crossfire" and all of the commentary shows which followed, and it was also the inspiration for SNL's Weekend Update with the original cast in which Dan Aykroyd would start his commentary with the line, "Jane, you ignorant slut."
At any rate, I thought I'd create my own musical point/counterpoint. In this case, I chose these songs because one sings happily about the power of love bringing a couple together while the other darkly shows its pitfalls. Which do you think makes a better point?
Captain and Tenille - Love Will Keep Us Together
Joy Division - Love Will Tear Us Apart

Two of my favorite songs I never thought of comparing them like that, probably because I'm in opposite moods/times in my life when I'm listening to them. They're both the truth!

This is like comparing a Disney movie to an indie.
