Unsung: The Sylvers

[img:$uid]http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j220/gowes/TheSylvers-2-1.jpg[/img:$uid]

From The New Sylvers Messege Board.

Angie Sylvers has posted the she and members of the group have completed a piece for TV ONE's 'Unsung Series', it's suppose to air this fall. It's my understanding neither Foster or Ricky Sylvers didn't participated in the show.

Yeah, but this season started in the Summer. Did they get rid of Life After?

IT's usually Unsung, Life After than Unsung again.

worship thumbs up!

FINALLY! Been waiting on this episode since season two. The Sylvers is gonna be one to watch. Prison, substance abuse, torn relationships, tension among siblings, Edmunds' bitter departure from the group, record label drama etc. Alot of drama is gonna be in that episode. The Sylvers went through a lot of crap that still hasn't been told.

I'd be surprised it they go that deep but who knows, I guess we shall find out...

But then I was surprised they even agreed to do 'Unsung'.

They probably won't go that deep, but there's so much stuff that went on with this group. Ricky, Edmund, and Foster had the worst fates. I'm a little surprised as well, but they definitely deserved a special. They certainly weren't on the level of the Jacksons, the Osmonds or the DeBarges, but they stood their own. It is even more interesting that their first and only pop hit was "Boogie Fever" back in 1975, but they have such a rich musical legacy that has gone criminally overlooked. Their first three albums before the whole "disco fever" phrase are classics.

Prince was always mistakened 4 one of The Sylvers. Loved there harmony. I hope the real story is told this time. Unlike Shalamars which Jody Watley cleared up later.

eye will ALWAYS think of prince like a "ACT OF GOD"! N another realm. eye mean of all people who might of been aliens or angels.if found out that prince wasn't of this earth, eye would not have been that surprised. R.I.P. prince

I don't know how, the Sylvers men were never that short after 11 years of age. lol After Shalamar's Unsung, I stopped watching the show all together.

I'll try to check this out.

As I've mentioned before about Unsung, I'm not interested in watching the trainwreck. There's a fine line between telling someones story and exploiting their pain and misfortune for entertain-ment sake; I want to know about the music and the process.

Wishful thinking, I'm sure. biggrin

That's one of the things that kinda irk me about Unsung. Sure, I'm glad that some of the folks that they take an in-depth look at finally get their due, but most of it looks at the misfortunes, drama and pain. Let's look at some albums more than hit singles and fan favorites. But hey, what else can you possibly cover in 45 minutes? I hope they give the Sylvers' story a lot of credit and gratification. I think their story is enough to cover in 2 hours more than 45 minutes, since many just knows them for "Boogie Fever" and that's it. There's so much great music in their catalog and it's not filled with the disco fluff.

I'll give you an example....

Two or three years ago when Tavis Smiley did a number of interviews with artist from Motown: Ashford and Simpson for an hour they talked about being songwriters and musicians; no dirt, no gossip, no snide remarks.... nada. It's one of the best interviews Mr. Smiley has ever done, I didn't want it to end. smile

I agree a 2 part documentary would be nice. What I'm interested in learning is who they came to a make the decision to go move away from R&B/Soul to singing popcorn Disco. How could Leon be so successful with producing and writing for other artist but couldn't translate that talent to his family band? I'm also interested in how the Slyvers came to the conclusion to disband and was it difficult to make the transition to "civilian life"? Of course Edmund 's reasons for walking away from it all and moving across the country. Who and the heck made the decision to record Bizarre, a strange album indeed?

Here's a link to an inteview from last year with Foster, Angie, and Pat; this is a gospel / religious net radio station.

all this talk about how you guys dont like the drama...u want them to mostly talk about the msuic and the singles? They did that with almost all of them, but they also have apersonal story that is just as important as the music. It's our "old school" Behind The Music..lets us have it!

Maybe to you it is. I don't know or care about my own relatives' business. lol

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton
