Jessica Simpson: The Overshadowed POP Star

I think if her record company would have invested more time into her and carved out her own identity instead of trying to make her britney or Christinia 2.0 she would of have one of the biggest music careers of the 2000's decade

I agree, she does have an incredible voice, but like u said her record company tried to make her another Britney. I think they should have tried to make her a young Celine Dion.

She does have the pipes, just listen to 'I Wanna Love U Forever'.

But unfortunatley, she became a victim of record execs not really sure how to market her.

I hope she releases another album, maybe a country/pop thing would be interesting biggrin , maybe working with Dolly Parton. She definetly is way too talented to just be selling clothing or hair and make up products disbelief .

Hey baby! Don't get me in here actin' silly now! You're not taping this are you... ????

Identity

She unfortunately got saddled with the "dumb bimbo with a huge rack" label when viewers got to see her at home with ex-hubby Nick on that MTV reality series. Although that was a few years ago, the caricature endures. Since her MTV stint, I kinda lost interest.

yeah that reality tv show was a big mistake, this is a whole new decade and people still remember hit me baby one more time , oops i did again, or dirty, beautiful, and fighter from christinia but most probably reconigzed jessica from newlyweds , i was watching Nick lachey behind the music and that show was one of the factors that lead to their divorce

well also Nick was a liar and playing the part of the "scorned" ex doing those ballads early after the break but meanwhile he was banging Vanessa Minnillo and another worker at mtv during the marriage. The show was a dumb idea but made her a big time business woman, she may not be relevant in music anymore (but who is) but she is consistently pulling in money from her clothing/handbag line etc...She in a way reminds me of Toni Braxton, though not as successful, but both were blessed with the talent and def the eye candy material by far, but both made poor career moves at times, Toni of course made alot more, Jessica at least had someone TRUSTED running the business, as opossed to Toni who basically let anyone do it and they robbed her blind.

I bought her first cd right around the time it came out, because I heard her on "I Wanna Love You Forever" and went : eek .

Yeah, I think the problem is that they tried to turn her into something she isn't - they tried to make her a dancing pop star along the lines of Britney and that really isn't where Simpson's abilities lie. So it's that and just the fact that, further along in her career, she wasn't really getting any good songs to sing, the best stuff is really all piled onto her first cd.

Even today, I like THIS song because of how the John Mellencamp sample was used on the music production side:

Vocally, Jessica was the first Mariah-clone on the scene. Has Sony Music taken THAT gimmick more seriously instead of trying too hard to make Jessica into their version of Britney or Christina, Jessica might still have a music career right now.
