Shemekia Copeland ~ Who Stole My Radio

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

I have one of Shemekia's old albums, the one with Wild Wild Woman on it. This song isn't on it, but it makes me think of some of the threads that are popular here. lol

"Who stole the funk?

Who stole the soul?

Who took the rock out of rock & roll?

It's a shame

It's a crime, what I'm hearing is a waste of my time"

The 2nd verse seems to be talking about Clear Channel style radio stations.

yes she used to (maybe still does) many folk/blues festivals in the tri-state.

i actually met her at a gig she did in a coffee house in doylestown, pa. she gave me a hug, we took a picture.

and that show is definitely in my top 10 smile it was around the release of "wicked".
