Amy Winhouses's rep has confirmed that the 27-year-old singer checked into a rehab clinic on Wednesday as part of an ongoing battle with alcohol addiction.

She "has embarked on a treatment program at the Priory Clinic. She wants to be ready for performances in Europe this summer and decided to seek an assessment. She will remain at the Priory on doctors' advice," the rep said in a statement.

According to a source close to the singer, it was a move initiated by her father Mitch Winehouse. "Her dad sat her down and said 'I think you're drinking too much again.' So she agreed to go an assessment to stop it becoming a bigger problem."

The singer downed a miniature bottle of Smirnoff vodka on her way to the clinic on Wednesday, "in typical Amy style," said the friend.

Fortunately the singer, who has a series of summer gigs planned in Europe kicking off June 18, took heed to her father's words and checked herself into the clinic. "She's determined, and this is all off her own back," said the source. "It's just a lapse. There are ups and downs on the road, and there have been mostly ups recently. But this is a down and she's done the right thing and gone to rehab."

Yeah, I'm really missing her whiny voice and total lack of stage presence.

He sounds like Frank Sanatra and Tony Bennett.

This girl is a mess. I have seen old videos out of England when she was playing her guitar, bright eyes, meat on her bones and a fantastic voice. I hope she can get it together. Such a talent! Get yourself together girl!!!

That's unfortunate. She needs more than rehab.

Adele has totally filled her void, I loved Back to Black but not holding breath for a triumphant return. Mostly I hope she gets healthy and stays that way.

So sad for her. That's what drugs and alcohol does to people. I don't understand why people still do that.

I hope she will be able to overcome all her addictions and doesn't die from them.

99% of my posts are ironic. Maybe this post sides with the other 1%.

Guess she has not hit rock bottom yet neutral

I think going into rehab is good but I think folks tend to think it is or use it as a "quick fix" to a problem.

Yeah, I hope she's going to meetings or something regularly. It's people just using rehab as a chance to "dry out" that doesn't really seem to work.

Winehouse Leaves Rehab eek
June 2, 2011

Winehouse checked out of rehab today, after less than one week.

Spokesman Chris Goodman told AP today that the singer is now looking forward to touring Europe this summer and is "raring to go."

He told the BBC she had completed her assessment at the Priory clinic in London and will continue as an "outpatient."

Goodman added, "She would like to send a huge thanks to all her fans for the messages of support she has received over the last week and can't wait to see them."
