I used to play her single "Something Real" endlessly in the early 90s. I was especially hooked on the chorus lyric "But this time when I reach out, it may be my last try".

I'm not familiar with that song, but I certainly like that line. nod I'm thinking; how many times have I reached out... as a last try? People in my life have usually found out... TOO LATE.

"Something Real"

Written by: P. Snow

Tell me what you're feeling and what it all means
You could be defensive or open up and share your dreams
You can keep right on denying or face me and start crying

Because this time, when I reach out, it may be my last try
Ooohh baby, I want something real one time before I die

We'll cry until it's funny, baby. And laugh our selves to tears, yeah
If you're frightened honey, I'll hold you through your fears
You see, I've had some bad relationships already and
I've fooled around goin' steady

But this time when I reach out, it may be my last try
Help me, help me, baby, I want something real from you baby
I want something that, I don't have to stay alive
I want something real one time before I die

We can make love all night until sky catches fire
Keep talking for hours, I'll never get tired
Don't want you to lie, but you're such a beautiful liar

You see, I want something real from you baby
I want something that I don't have, to stay alive
I want something that I can really feel

Something that I can't conceal
I want something real one time before I die

OH! Okay, I recognized that line from when I watched the live clip that you posted earlier in the thread. Yeah, it's a lovely song. Reading the lyrics, I understand better now what the song is about... and I can completely relate (...as with many of her songs).

One of the things I hate most when artists that I love die, is discovering more of their music that I hadn't heard before, that was there all along. I suppose that could be a good thing though, in spite of their death.

I'll never get used to people dying. neutral

I feel a bit of shame buying her music now with her passing away, but I hope to find her many gems while hearing her sing from now on. GOD bless her family and friends left behind, let's celebrate her legacy.

I love Phoebe's music, one of a kind, her sound so soothing, it seeps into my heart and soul everytime.

Phoebe's Poetry Man especially reminds me of Prince in the way the delivery of music affects sensitive open hearts heart

Not only the poetry but also her music and arrangments.

The backing vocals and the awsome musicians.

Two fisted love sounds very close to Shy by Prince.

Has he ever mentioned her as an influence?

Also Joni Mitchell and hawaian slack guitar vibes in Phoebe's music.

Soooooo sad this happened so soon.

I was shopping on the 16th of april for Record Store Day. I picked up her album, It Looks Like (Phoebe) Snow. It didn't make any sense to me that I didn't own any of her records as much as I loved her voice. And here we are, ten days later and she's gone. I rarely cry at the passing of a celebrity but this hurt my heart.
