Morrissey has confirmed that he has finished writing his autobiography, adding that he wants it published within the next year.

The singer was being interviewed for BBC Radio 4's Front Row when he made announcement.

"How far [into writing the book] am I? Well, I've reached the re-drafting, trimming stage," he said.

He added: "I've been through the whole life in many ways and I just wonder if 660 pages are too much for people to bear. And then I sit down and think, well, are six pages too much for people to bear? I really don't know. I'm trimming."

Morrissey went onto confirm that he does not have a deal with a publisher and will be offering the book to clients in due course. He said he wants it to come out on the Penguin Classics series, despite the book franchise normally only ever being bestowed on already-established literary classics rather than new titles.

"I can't see why not," Morrissey asked when quizzed on the matter.

Elsewhere in the interview he reiterated that he has no plans to reform The Smiths any time soon.

"It won't happen. Nah. I don't think so," he said. "There's no reunion point. There really is no point at all that I can think of, and that's that."

He also said he doesn't want to retire from singing, declaring light-heartedly: "I'm just gonna carry on like the old blues singers and die onstage in Chicago probably."

I find Morrissey utterly boring.

If not for the fact that he was the front man and lyricist for one of my favorite bands of all time, I'd have no interest in the memoir. That being said, I'd like to read it to see what he says about the band and Marr.

And I'd hope a word or two would be said about Robert Smith. lol

A co-worker hipped me to one of the Smiths tapes called, "The Queen Is Dead." I actually liked several cuts on that album. It's been ages since I've heard it.

Don't know if I'd want to read a Memoir from Morrissey though...I'd have to clear the house of all knives and such. Just kidding...razz

The Queen Is Dead was the first album from the Smiths that I bought. I was fortunate enough to have been visiting England when the album came out. It's probably the band's highest achievement.

That had to be a cool experience, to be in England when that record came out.

In exchange for introducing me to the Smiths, I introduced him to TTD. He was so grateful. I think it was the Symphony or Damn tape.

Loved the Smiths but haven't gotten much from his solo work. Nevertheless I'll raed his book.

I suspect there will be some complaints he feels the need to air.

Penguin Books: "Morrissey Autobiography is a Classic in the Making"

April 22, 2011

Penguin Books has said Morrissey's forthcoming autobiography is "a classic in the making".

The publisher has said it is keen to enter discussions with the former Smiths frontman, who announced he had finished the 600-page-plus tome earlier this week.

During an interview with BBC Radio 4's Front Row, Morrissey said he wanted the book to come out on the Penguin Classic series, despite the book franchise normally only ever being bestowed on already-established literary classics rather than new titles.

Responding to his comments, a spokeswoman for Penguin told The Independent: "There is a natural fit between Morrissey's sensibility, his artistic achievements and Penguin Classics. A book could be published as a Penguin Classic because it is a classic in the making."

When quizzed about the possibility of being published by Penguin, Morrissey said: "I can't see why not."

He continued: "I've been through the whole life in many ways and I just wonder if 660 pages are too much for people to bear. And then I sit down and think, well, are six pages too much for people to bear? I really don't know. I'm trimming."
