Kate Bush single & album update. This from http://www.katebushnews.com/
Radio 2 will be the first radio station in the world to play the new Kate Bush single, “Deeper Understanding” on Monday 4 April 2011. The song will be played within the Ken Bruce show at approximately 11.10am. Ken Bruce told us ‘The listeners to my show are very vocal when it comes to their musical loves, so I know that having the world exclusive of Kate’s new single will surpass their extremely high standards. I can’t wait to hear it myself.’ The song will be the Record of the Week on Radio2 and will be played each day on the Ken Bruce’s Show and Alex Lester’s programme. Jeff Smith, Head of Music, Radio 2 and 6 Music - ”Kate’s music is as influential today as it was when it was first released, so I’m delighted to have this world exclusive.
A Swedish CD store (link here) is listing the Director’s Cut tracklisting as follows. PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS NOT OFFICIALLY CONFIRMED! UPDATE: The Swedish site have removed the tracklisting. As we said, this is not confirmed by EMI or Kate. We will await any official word.

Hmmm...it really doesn't sound much different than the orginal version from "The Sensual World," but hey...maybe the others WILL. I'd love to hear her rework "Eat the Music" with some more percussive embellishements and Latin influences rather than the same repetitive horn loop that's heard throughout the first recording of it. Otherwise, yeah...DEFINITELY need some NEW Kate and not reworkings of the OLD Kate. Agreed! Maybe this album is a teaser for something greater (and newer) to come???? LOVE me some Katey! Hungry? Just look in the mirror and get fed up.

I have that record. | |

A KLF vs Kate Bush release sounds brilliant. The KLF should come out of musical retirement and do this.

I could not agree more. It has however been confirmed that Kate is currently working on new material, http://www.katebushnews.c...new-album/. This of course has been said many times before, so I guess we will have to be a little more patient. The fact that she has been working on and is now releasing this album of reworkings, and her official website getting a makeover and re launch, could indicate more than just this "Directors Cut" album in the pipeline. I hope so.

DIRECTORS CUT TRACKLIST.
KATE BUSH RELEASES HER BRAND NEW SINGLE “DEEPER UNDERSTANDING” ON TUESDAY APRIL 5; THE SINGLE WAS PLAYED FOR THE FIRST TIME ON RADIO 2 THIS MORNING, MONDAY APRIL 4.
KATE’S NEW ALBUM “DIRECTOR’S CUT” IS RELEASED ON MAY 16 AND FEATURES RE-INTERPRETATIONS AND MANY NEWLY RECORDED ELEMENTS OF CLASSIC KATE BUSH SONGS FROM TWO PREVIOUS ALBUMS.
Kate Bush releases her new single, a brand new version of “Deeper Understanding”, on Tuesday April 5. The single is released digitally and had its first play this morning, Monday April 4 on Radio 2. A new short film to accompany the track will be premiered in a few weeks. It’s directed by Kate and stars Robbie Coltrane, Frances Barber and Noel Fielding – and Kate’s son Albert plays the role of the computer programme. He is also featured in the song, singing as the computer programme. Kate’s new album “Director’s Cut” is released on May 16, the first album to be released on her own label, Fish People, which will be distributed by EMI. The track-listing for the album, which sees her revisit and, in some cases, re-record tracks from two of her classic albums is:
FLOWER OF THE MOUNTAIN (a new version of the song originally titled ‘The Sensual World’) SONG OF SOLOMON DEEPER UNDERSTANDING LILY RED SHOES THIS WOMAN’S WORK MOMENTS OF PLEASURE NEVER BE MINE TOP OF THE CITY AND SO IS LOVE RUBBERBAND GIRL
Kate says: “Originally when I wrote the song ‘The Sensual World’ I had used text from the end of ‘Ulysses’ by James Joyce, put to a piece of music I had written. When I asked for permission to use the text I was refused, which was disappointing. I then wrote my own lyrics for the song although I felt that the original idea had been more interesting. Well, I’m not James Joyce am I? When I came to work on this project I thought I would ask for permission again and this time they said yes. It is now re-titled ‘Flower Of the Mountain’ and I am delighted that I have had the chance to fulfill the original concept”. All the lead vocals and drums on “Director’s Cut” are new performances, some of the tracks featuring guests including Steve Gadd, Danny Thompson and, on backing vocals, Mica Paris. Three songs have been completely re-recorded, one of which is “This Woman’s Work”. Kate adds: “For some time I have felt that I wanted to revisit tracks from these two albums and that they could benefit from having new life breathed into them. Lots of work had gone into the two original albums and now these songs have another layer of work woven into their fabric. I think of this as a new album”. Kate Bush is currently working on her new album of brand new material.

I still cannot find out if the single will be available in physical form.
My local record shop today had no idea, looks like it's digital only.
Anyone know for certain?

you have a local record shop?
seriously, where is the closest shop to you that sells records? or even cds, and i don't mean sainsburys
for me, it's ocean terminal. used to be woollies, but i never bought a cd or record there in my life. i actually live upstairs from what used to be an actual record store and a half decent one. in my dj days i used to make weekly trips there. now it's a card shop. at least i have a recording studio in the basement though
fopp in cockburn street closed, avalanche in cockburn street closed, virgin shut, hmv going bust. there's fuckall in decent record stores here anymore. i haven't been in vinly villains in about a decade now. i used to go there twice a week, hangout every sunday. i got the kate bush hits cd and video from there. great place to find non chart stuff at good prices. now every cunt downloads it from the internets for nothing. fucking students. in my days it was all fields around here

I consider Fopp in Rose Street my local record shop now, friendly staff, who (most of the time) know what they are talking about, good selection, and a lot cheaper than HMV, who are more like a glorified clothes and sweet shop these days. Vinyl Villans was good years ago, but the two (brothers?) who work in there now are a pair of moaning alkie assholes, no wonder they are always empty. Avalanche has moved to a (too big) shop in the Grassmarket, they are a shower of moaning cunts too. Apart from Fopp, Edinburgh is shit for record shops. That could close too as they are owned by HMV, if that happens we are fucked.

it's not really local though, not by edinburgh standards. for a start it's miles from you, second it's in the main shopping area, and third it's owned by the biggest record retailler in the UK
vinly villains has always had that personal customer service, which makes buying records feel like getting a punch in the fucking face. i donthink they were brothers but they used to share a falt in gayfield sqaure. i cant believe they are still going after all these years, especially now you can download stuff for nothing if you cant afford to pay full price. or you have ebay and amazon
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Miles from me? I can walk in under 15 mins. And VV's customer service ended in 1992, they are a pair of prehistoric moaning dickheads. Close them down, and send the fuckers to the stocks!!

- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
it's still miles from you, even if you have superhuman walking capabilities. jenners is closer and you'd hardly call jenners a local shop, unless you have more money than sense and your chauffer drives you there in your bentley
VV went crap after professor plastic left. i hardly went after that. i worked nearby his own shop for a bit, but a lot of his prices were high to cover his overheads so his clientelle was limited
they guys who worked at VV were actually alright guys, but they just gave off this vibe that made you feel unwelcome. if you weren't a chain smoking rollup type that still dressed in a post punk red wedge style, you just weren't there type

To me, it sounds like she's getting some seed money together for her record label. She hasn't gotten into re-release overkill, so this is fine. Hopefully this also means she's doing a re-release of her back catalog, including the videos.

is that dvd a bootleg (i can't see a barcode which suggests it is, although many bootlegs stick barcodes on to look official) or one of them cheapo amazon/hmv bargain bin jobs?
and is the quality any good?
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
It's a bootleg. Quality is slightly better than the circulating laserdisc transfer, though it's not a huge leap in quality.
| |
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
so this is just a better quality LD rip? is it worth downloading if i have a previous copy (that i've not watched)?
