HAPPY MOOG

"After the success of Walter (now Wendy) Carlos's 1968 album SWITCHED-ON BACH, the record industry experienced a brief surge of cash-in moog exploitation albums. Some of the best of these include The Moog Machine's SWITCHED-ON ROCK (Columbia Records), The Electric Concept Orchestra's MOOG GROOVE (Limelight Records), and THE HAPPY MOOG! (Pickwick Records).

THE HAPPY MOOG! was masterminded by Jean Jacques Perrey and Harry Breuer, both stalwarts of the music industry. Perrey in particular is remembered as an early pioneer of electronica; he's best known for his 1970 album MOOG INDIGO as well as for his collaborations with Gershon Kingsley."

I still remember 1969, when my dad brought home MOOG by Dick Hyman--I was only 4, but I was instantly hooked on that Sound!!!

nod Oh Yes! Nice Documentary!

BTW, back in the late 90's, my friends and I decided to go down to the Smithsonian here in DC, beacuse we read that they were having a discussion on the History of Synthesizers. But when we got there, we were suprised that the panel consisted of Robert Moog himself, along with Malcolm Cecil and Robert Margouleff, programmers of the TONTO synthesizer bank and producers for Stevie Wonder, Billy Preston, The Isleys, Devo, Oingo Boingo and others....

Btw, this was another Kool film.....

Wow!

I bet that must've been a fascinating discussion to witness. Huge fan of TONTO and have all of their albums, but I'm tempted to think that they have learned/been influenced alot by White Noise and BBC's legendary Radiophonic Workshop.

Thanks for the film heads, pali. And I raise you one too...

Nice to see a keyboard nerd thread actually getting responses.

Here's a great source for free Mellotron samples if anyone is interested:

http://www.leisureland.us/audio/MellotronSamples/MellotronSamples.htm

All 35 keys sampled per tape set. That is essential for the Mellotron sound / experience (not even the commercial products offer this except for the one by M-Audio). You'll have to map these to a sampler / softsampler yourself and also preferably use a high pass filter to cut off some of the highs that are overbearing on some tape sets. Mixer EQ or a plug-in EQ will work just fine, the filter on the Mellotron wasn't resonant either.

Thanks a million. I know somebody who would get a good use out of them.
