Oh lawd...I just noticed something.

I was just shuffling around my iPod today and I noticed that there were two songs that songs particularly sound similar in rhythm, tone, and chorus. Ok let me just say it, Larry Graham straight up jocked Federick Knight, but they're both classics.

Here you go, make your own observations:

Now listen to GCS's "We've Been Waiting" from their classic 1973 debut...eek

This is def a side-eye worthy moment.

There're moments in GCS where you could hear a Sly & the Family Stone nod, but they're far & few between, this shit though is blatant.

Yeah you can hear some Sly in alot of Graham's work...

On Larry's 1980 album One In A Million You, there's a cut called "Glad That It's Summer Again" and you can't tell me it doesn't sound like "Hot Fun In The Summertime."

On their Larry's 2001 Rhino anthology, there's a previously unreleased cut called "Glad That It's Summer Again" and you can't tell me it doesn't sound like "Hot Fun In The Summertime."

OMG, that was the song I was referring to, I couldn't remember its title lol I thought I was the only one who caught the "Hot Fun In the Summertime" vibe, Larry is smart for keeping that song shelved.

I'd say this though, Larry's discography makes it hard for me not to shrug those moments off esp when the rest of his stuff is just addictive love

I'm still shocked that he made that disco-influenced album, Star Walk and he thinks it's one of the best things he ever did. omfg

hmmm I thought it was an open takeoff of the Frederick Knight song, without any attempt to pretend otherwise. I've always taken it as a sort of affectionate nod, as opposed to a sneaky theft. (It might even have seemed cute and novel before the days of Diddy-style hip hop when everyone was just grabbing an old hit and writing a few new words to the chorus!)

I don't have the sleevenotes to the original GCS album, but I think they did credit to the original writers.
