Michael Jackson fans -- explain MJ's dualistic alibi, please.

A number of Michael Jackson's fans and supporters point to the abuse he says he suffered at the hands of his father as confirmation of his claims that he's a Peter Pan-type male who never really aged. He's just a kid in a man's body, they tend to say, parroting his claim of "harmless" immaturity. He's not into sex. He'd rather have a water-balloon fight or climb a tree. OK...

But, how does one reconcile that construction with the crotch-grabbing 40-something man whose choreography and lyrical content consistently indicate an extremely sexually aware, mature artist?

Normal adults manage to express both a protective, harmless and good love for children within appropriate contexts and sexual feelings expressed with other consenting adults.

But, Jackson seems to want to have it both ways: In real life, he says, he's little more than a Smurf. Those kid-loving feelings are his inspiration for the songs he writes about lost childhood, saving the world and healing children.

But, what about his songs about sex, mature love and lust-at-first-sight reactions to some girl? Where does the inspiration for those songs originate? He writes them, sings them with conviction, does grinds and thrusts while performing to them. What's that about? Is this make-believe? Nope.

Sex isn't foreign to Jackson. It's not some yucky concept that leaves him skittish or giggly. The man sings about sex. It's a fixture in a large part of his oeuvre.

But, the only people he's interested in sharing his bed are little children? C'mon... It's time that folks stop giving this man a pass. He needs help. And, it's commonly known that abuse victims, if they don't receive help, often perpetuate a cyle of abuse by inflicting harm themselves.

And besides,it is pointless trying to analyze Michael and to understand why he does what he does.We will never completely "figure him out" in this lifetime,so we need to stop trying.

That's the truth.

I just haven't seen the issue of dualism addressed -- despite the numerous threads devoted to MJ.

Don't like the topic? Scrrooom, then! smile

Under the header "Who is a Child Abuser?"

The first identifier: "Have been abused as a child - a life pattern of aggression and violence has been established."

I disagree. MJ, P and Madge are all 44 and are all 80s icons, but who have all followed very different paths and are now in very different places - Madge still seeming to be in the ascendant, MJ on the skids, and P possibly the happiest he's ever been as an independent artist.

I'd quite like to see a documentary doing a bit of a compare and contrast on these 3. I think it would make for some interesting journalism.

I certainly wasnt!! I was merely suggesting that a compare and contrast would be interesting. I think that the 3 artists are completely different even though I suspect that many people would lump them together - all the same age, all huge stars in the 80s, all from USA, all had their creative/commercial low points (just at different times, for different reasons and to differing degrees)

Hey to suggest a comparison doesnt mean that I think they're the same, only that a comparison would be interesting because it would point up the differences.

What doesn't quite work with MJ is he will present a video asking us to believe the fantasy of MJ chasing & lusting after Naiomi Campbell & he will turn around & say he is Peter Pan-like & all he wants to do is climb trees & have pajama parties. Well since the video is entertainment then the pajama party manchild is the real MJ. Thats why his record sales have dropped. He just doesn't get it that this manchild line of his is a TOTAL turn-off. I have no desire to get my nine year old nephew & cuddle up in bed to listen to the latest MJ record. Yet MJ thinks this is normal. That people will understand such behavior. His record sales have dropped because he is such a DISGUSTING human being. He doesn't get the problem because he is the problem. But he prefers to blame Dad or Tommy Mottola or the media.

First, thedoorkeeper, thank you for getting this thread back on topic. Secondly, I'd forgotten about his campaigns of blame against Mottola. Someone else mentioned that, being a 40-something man, it's time for him to take responsibility and stop playing the victim.
