That network is ass backwards anyway and getting an award from them would be an insult rather than an honor. Just look at the very first person on that list. Miss Goodie Two Shoes made her very first record after everyone else on that list but yet she gets honored before they do. Just goes to show how ass backwards they are.

But then again, maybe it is more appropriate that they honor her first because it was her type of music that eventually led to the type of dull bullshit they played all the way up until they stopped playing music videos.

To be honest, I knew it was fucked up too that they gave it to Whitney. They didn't give it to the first artist they played on the channel on the award show's first year:

Earth, Wind & Fire.

Wait a minute! Why hasn't Michael Jackson won a BET achievement award?

He was considered for a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2003, but MJ himself made BET give it to James Brown because he thought he believed he deserved it more. They should change gears and give him a posthumous award to make up for those horrendous tributes they've done for him (Chris Brown performance last year included!)

You almost got me in tears watching this again! lol

They have no more of a chance than the acts I named. razz BET will probably give it to Snoop Dogg. lol

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

I guess if they wanna honor the posthumous, they'll pick Lady Tee before ever picking McDonald. I've yet to see them honor the posthumous unless it was in tribute.

One of these guys and gals. Without them, there wouldn't be a BET. They also paved the way for black acts to get mainstream acceptance.

for some reason, i don't think BET would EVER recognize mr. robeson (one of the GREATEST figures ever). maybe BEFORE viacom bought BET. but now? no way!

bessie smith? MAYBE. scratch that. no for her either. but i think sammy davis jr. should DEFINITELY receive something. he's the only one i could see them acknowleding.

clara ward? ma rainey? c.l. franklin? BO DIDDLEY? SAM COOKE? MESHELL N'DEGEOCELLO? larry graham? bobby womack? FRANKIE CROCKER (for bringing a lot of artists to radio that no one would have heard at the time)? johnny mathis? louie armstrong? BARRY WHITE? chic? anita baker? mary j. blige?

'honorary/white chocolate' BET awards: michael mc donald, teena marie, rod temperton, the beastie boys, malcolm mc claren...

and as a billion people already said... STEVIE WONDER!!!

but i don't watch tv anyways, so i will continue to honor these artists in my own way, with or without BET's acknowledgment of them.

Even IF Viacom didn't buy BET, BET wouldn't acknowledge any of them. That's a shame, you finally get an all black station dedicated to entertainment and they can't even preserve that right. We always talk about our culture being "raped" ( rolleyes ) and forgotten about but we forget about them just as much (if not more). So if anyone wants to point the blame on that, this community is definitely to blame. The community you and me are a part of.
