radiohead - hail to the thief

just listened to radiohead's ' hail to a thief ' album...i am finding this one harder to like after first listen than ' kid a ' ...i know it will probably grow on me....but it aint an easy listen on first impressions...

.

standout tracks for me

.

backdrifts

there there

a wolf at the door

.

.

great tracks...love them straight away

.

.

bloody awful tracks..

.

we suck young blood

the gloaming

.

.

cant stand the young blood track but...when you push the boat out as far as radiohead do ....some stuff aint going to work so thats fine......overall...yes i think i will like most of the tracks after a few listens but i dont think it comes near ' ok computer , the bends or ' in rainbows '

.

.

.

I agree, it isn't an easy listen. But I've noticed that it is the only Radiohead album since OK Computer that I'm still listening to 6 months after its release.

Its to THE thief..but anyways..this release is so damn underrated.

And omg Drunken Punch Up and Wolf At The Door are just so..so..great/odd.

..and There There is dare I say, funky?

I think it doidnt get a fair shake because it was the release follwoing Kid A/Amnesiac.

"HTTT" is a little bit longer than their other releases, and I think that's part of the problem. A few songs should have been b-sides. At its core, it's as strong as any of their other albums (or nearly as strong). Some classic tracks... "Sail to the Moon" - - utterly gorgeous. "There There", "Where I End and You Begin", "I Will", "Sit Down, Stand Up", "2+2=5" - - all classics.

I would have chopped The Gloaming, Backdrifts and Go To Sleep. It's a much tighter, more powerful album without those 3 tracks, in my opinion. They would have been fine as b-sides.

"A Wolf at the Door" is definitely my favourite post OK Computer Radiohead song (I haven't heard In Rainbows or the new album).

never quite understood why so many people dislike "the gloaming". it's probably my favorite

track on the whole album, well except perhaps "where i end and you begin".

they even considered calling the album "The Gloaming" for a while but Phil thought it would

sound too "prog rock" or something. lol.

the album might have been a bit more cohesive or 'tight' with a couple of songs taken off,

but when i think about which ones would have to go, i can't really pick anything beyond the

rather horrible "we suck young blood", which is the only post Pablo Honey track that i've

never liked at.all.

Agreed. From what I've read even the band thinks this. More or less. I still love it though. There's some of the most intense stuff Radiohead has ever released on there. I think I'll play HTTT tonight. It's been awhile since I've listened from start to finish. Then I'll play The King Of Limbs again. cool

Fantasy is reality in the world today. But I'll keep hangin in there, that is the only way.

Its length makes it the weakest Radiohead album after the debut, but it has some great tracks. "Drunken..." and "Sail to the Moon" are two of my favorites you didn't mention.

It's one of their finest in my books. I can listen to it over and over. Keep with it.
