"Body" The Jacksons

My sister and I are going back and forth as I'm trying to get her to realize that "Body" is VERY similar to Wanna be Starting Something. She just doesn't seem to get it.

You got your "owww" in the beginning, you got your "yah yah yah yah" chant in Body which is similar to "Too high to get over (yeah yeah) too low to get under (yeah yeah)...." And the rhythm and bassline are very similar also.

I'm not sure what the history is behind MJ not recording Body but starting his own album around the same time but I'm sure there is a reason for these songs being very similar. Anyhow, anyone else see the similarities???

.......Oh-oh-oh, by the way...He plays guitar.

smh..lol...what makes you think I've never seen this before. I never really payed attention to the cheeziness though until now. I just like watching Marlon, Jackie dance at the end. But...this does not answer my question....

Well, atleast answer my question. Do you see the similarities between this song and WBSS? Come on...You can do it!

This similarity goes all the way back to 1977 with The Jacksons "Different Kind of Lady."

The chant on Wanna Be Startin' Somethin' comes from here:

This is the song mentioned above.

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

I FREAKING LOVE THIS SONG!

it just feels.....reeeeeeal good, like a brighter toned WBSS (not saying its better or anything, its just has a lighter, tropical tint to it)

I love the break down at the end with the guitar.

the video, which i just discovered a couple of years ago, ruined it for me a LIL bit.....a LIL bit mad

I agree. It's a generic song with a chorus that rips off Michael's own "Wanna Be Startin Something".I can certainly see why Michael didn't want to appear in the video.

I made a thread a while back called similar sounding Jacksons riff. Started with Different Kind of Lady (1977) to Another Part of Me (1987.)

DIFFERENT KIND OF LADY: The Jacksons (1977)

-The first of the Jackson riff. By all of the bros.
-----

THINGS I DO FOR YOU: The Jacksons (1978)

-Very similar to "Different Kind of Lady" more produced. Also by all the bros.
-----

SHAKE YOUR BODY (DOWN TO THE GROUND): The Jacksons (1978)

-The ultimate 'Jacksons riff' song. Michael and Randy take over for this one.
-----

DON'T STOP TIL YOU GET ENOUGH: Michael Jackson (1979)

-The biggest hit by the riff with Quincy on top. Mike alone (with help from Randy)
-----

WORKIN' DAY AND NIGHT: Michael Jackson (1979)

-Another one, this one from Mike.
-----

SUNSET DRIVER: Michael Jackson (1979)

-Outtake from Off The Wall.
-----

LOVELY ONE: The Jacksons (1980)

-"Shake Your Body, pt II." You can here that and "Different kind of Lady" on this tune. Mike and Randy at the helm for this tune also.

HEARTBREAK HOTEL: The Jacksons (1980)

-Mike solo on a Jacksons record.
-----

WANNA BE STARTIN' SOMETHIN': Michael Jackson (1982)

-It's back, on another Mike record. Song was originally for 'Off the Wall.'
-----

BODY: The Jacksons (1984)

-Marlon takes over for this Jacksons single.
-----

ALL MY LOVE TO YOU: Janet Jackson (1984)

-Marlon is back, this time producing for baby sis Janet.
-----

ANOTHER PART OF ME: Michael Jackson (1987)

-The last appearance of 'the Jacksons sound'.
-----

If there is any other songs I missed out on, feel free to let your voice be heard.

But Mike got sued by Manu Dibango for not being credited on Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'. Manu won the case and recieved royalties. Billie Jean copies the rhythm from I Can't Go For That from Hall and Oates. Quincy Jones himself said Beat It was based on My Sharona. The unreleased song Place With No Name comes from the 1970's light rock band America's Horse With No Name. So Mike got inspiration from other songs.

Yes,they copied lol The brothers saw all the amazing success that Michael had with 'Thriller' and they tried to copy it.The "Torture" video looks alot like the "Thriller" video.

Believe it or not, Manu sued again, when Rihanna used it for, "Please don't stop the music". I don't know what happened, though.

Body also sounds like Let's Hear It For The Boy! Give it to the Jacksons for spreading their influence just as Prince and Rick James did haha!

This song is such an 80s cheesy recording. To me it does sound like Wanna Be Startin Somethin. Its terrible but it was at one time my guilty pleasure. I dont think Michael had anything to do with this record.

The video is god awful. Its funny to see Randy in those striped pants shake his round ass like a woman. Tito did his best to keep up with choreography at least he didnt have a guitar in his hands. Jackie looks handsome so does Marlon. Thank God Jermaine wasnt in it. Also toward the end of the song it sounds like Marlon is 'wheezin' like he had a bad cold. lol You cant watch this video now with a straight face.
