lol Exactly. But still you know your magazine's irrelevant when they think a teenybopper's answers to life's problems are actually something anyone would wanna read if they were over 18. lol

[Edited 2/17/11 14:29pm]

Exactly. It could have been an interesting article about the whole teen star phenomenon that happens....but no....

That's been done to death regarding Britney Spears et al. As has "the youtube sensation" narrative. Don't know a Bieber article could ever have been interesting, controversial statements were as good an angle as any.

Who's the fucking moron that asked a 16 year old pop star about his stance on abortion?

The Rolling Stone. More to the point who is the PR moron who allowed him to discuss anything beyond singing, dancing and loving his fans?

i don't really know anything about bieber, but i am one of those people who's actually interested in the socio-political views of individuals, whether or not i agree with them. i'd rather hear that than see people always talking about singing and dancing. that gets boring/redundant after a while.

in the interview apparently, he also spoke about how the canadian health care system is better than the one in the states, and that is one reason he would not want to live here. i find that sort of stuff compelling. i'm sure more compelling than his music, if i ever heard it.

i'm not going to deny someone his political views, even though he is 16. again, whether or not i agree with him, he may know a lot more than we give him credit for. we expect celebrities to remain asleep. i commend people like sean penn and danny glover for speaking up about political issues. more people should do it.

and anyway, his answer makes perfect sense for a 16 year old boy. one that doesn't have to deal with such issues anyway.

I'm no fan of his, but anyone taking issue with him not having some kind of evolved worldview expects way too much out of human beings. Especially ones of that age.

i concur. i don't see anything wrong with the question at all. he also said that he can't answer so much to it, since that isn't in his range of experience. i give him credit for that.

wow... the responses here are interesting. you know, sam cooke was also politically astute, but no one would have given that a second thought, because he was just supposed to be a pop singer.

this is my problem with popular culture; we are trained to not speak out on issues; we are just supposed to stay asleep. again, i may not agree with everything bieber said, but i am glad he said it. i think popular culture needs to take on more of these conversations. then we can have a proper dialog, and people like bieber (as well as the public) can be better versed in the issues affecting us.

OK, I don't know how true it is but apparenly Justin had tweeted about "if you were a 'Belieber', you'll believe me" or something. Haven't checked if it was accurate but apparently someone screenshot it. Don't know if it's true. But if so, he's gonna catch a lot of flack.

EDIT: It was fake.

I'd go one further.

Why is a fucking nation (US or Canada) allowing minors to work and be exposed like this? Nike are attacked for using child labour, but the US think its ok to have kids working from the first age they can sing and dance in Mickey Ears.

He is a rehab center waiting to happen.

Rolling Stone Magazine Admits Bieber Misquote

Feb 18, 2011

Rolling Stone has revealed that an "editing error" resulted in Justin Bieber's comments on abortion being misquoted.

In an interview with the magazine, the 16-year-old said that he does not agree with abortion and appeared to make a controversial statement regarding pregnancies that are a result of rape.

However, Rolling Stone has since spoken out to clarify the remarks.

"Due to an editing error, this story originally included an incomplete quote from Justin Bieber," the magazine explained.

"The full quote, his response to whether abortions should be allowed in cases of rape, reads, 'Um. Well, I think that's really sad, but everything happens for a reason. I don't know how that would be a reason. I guess I haven't been in that position, so I wouldn't be able to judge that.'"

The full quote doesn't seem to alter the initial interpretation? Looks no better to me, whether his PR people wish it to or not.

I would think even at his age, he'd know better than to equate "rape" with "reason". I hate to think of a rape victim reading that her attack happened for, essentially, a purpose.

He's not 10, he's almost an adult. While the question was stupid, so was his answer. I just found out he's on Chris Brown's new album too. So this 16 yr old is borderline rape sympathist and is OK with working with a woman beater? Hmmmm...either he has the worst PR ever or he's a douchebag in training.

wow... i think the full quote actually DOES alter a lot... he may have caught what he said, then tried to correct himself with the 'i'm not in that position, so...'

however, i don't think his age is an excuse, since people twice his age have said things more ignorant, or brutal. just check all the things people are saying about lara logan's sexual assault. people are saying she deserved it, because she supported the animals in egypt. i think that's a lot worse than anything coming out of bieber's mouth in this interview. to say a woman deserves to be sexually assaulted/raped??!! EXCUSE ME??!! especially when this happens in the U>S> military ALL THE TIME??!! it's got NOTHING to do with ethnicity or spiritual practise.

again, whether or not i agree with bieber, i think his comments are calm in comparison. perhaps when he experiences getting a girl pregnant (or has a friend who has been raped and impregnated) he may change his mind.

nevertheless i think the focus on bieber is a profound example of how much we really are conditioned to ignore what is going on in the world through entertainment. the industry has been working harder and harder to drown us in ignorance. gone are the days of lena horne, charlie chaplin, paul robeson, eartha kitt and others in this country, who stood for something. now, you have popular culture figures going, 'i don't want to be involved in political conversations.' and those who DO involve themselves are deemed crazy. i mean, people always did, but those artists risked their careers for a cause. now, people are so attached to 'entertainment'.

for this, again, i am glad those questions were asked of bieber. those questions should be asked of EVERY popular culture figure. if popular actors in egypt can stand with the people under a dictatorship, why can't that happen here, under a fake democracy?

of COURSE it is... when they started putting naked women on the cover and stopped covering primarily political issues and artists (like frank zappa) they fell off.

eh. those were always the exceptions of any era. entertainment has been 90% bullshit since its inception. it's the exceptions that we remember and keep dear to us. the rest of it is "oh yeah, i remember that song" and you forget all the stupid bullshit that went along with the singer, the song, the era, etc.

"everything happens for a reason" is on my list of irritating things people say.

It's not Biblical! It's a silly statement that Christians spout when they have no nice and tiddy answer to some of lifes hard issues and questions.

So I ask the person who say's "everything happens for a reason", what about the child who was kidnapped, assaulted, and killed? What was the reason for that??? They have no answer.

The reason for that tragedy is because there are evil people in the world and the person who committed this crime needs to be executed ASAP!

As far as Bieber's stance on abortion, he's saying whatever his folks taught him, which fortunately is the correct stance. Hopefully he himself will stand for it on his own ground, not his folks. He got tripped up with the old "what about cases of rape/incest"? Bieber, to be consistent should of said, the unborn child should not be allowed to be murdered because his or her father is a criminal!! It's still an unborn baby who should be allowed to live.

Rolling Stone died about 20+ years ago and took alot of other magazines with it. the thing is EVERYONE who interviews is looking for the buyline, the hook, the dirt, the BS. They know the public cares NOTHING about any of these clown artists, so why talk about things like "what was the first album you bought" its better to ask a 16 year old, "so what is your stance on rape and abortion" good journalist or whatever this asshole was, probably was a person that couldnt even get hired by entertainment weekly. I mean its like when you see a mens magazine like Smooth Girl or King, or Show, they ask these models the same 3 questions, "whats your ideal date" "are u seeing someone" "whats your favorite position" same shit, i dont give any cred to any form of publication now.

I don't see any problem asking him some tough questions. He's basically accelerated his adulthood by entering show business.

He might only be 16, but unless he finishes high school and goes to college, THIS is the Beiber that education has crafted. Everything he learns about the world and life in general will come from life experience -- not education.

For all we know, the questions were planned. They could have been some sort of ploy to show "another side" of him, or even him sending a message to his millions of female fans that abortion is not OK. Who knows.
