All of those people drew their influences whether directly or indirectly from Black American artists who planted their mark ever so firmly on music.

So, its nothing but a rerun.

I don't care about countries anymore, it's all kinda baseless now. It's just music and we're gonna like each other if it's good, that's how it is.

Me neither. But the OP asked a question, and I replied shrug I supposed I should've came up with a PC answer but it wouldn't be honest from my end.

If you love the UK so much, how come you're ashamed of mentioning The Spice Girls, Bananarama, Girls Aloud, & Dead Or Alive/Pete Burns ?!?

Perhaps he wishes to cling onto the merest thread of respectability, though not seemingly implied by the inclusion of Duffy, Coldplay, and Judas Priest, I'll just about give him that. Just.

Didn't include: Faces & Roderick Stewart, Ronnie Lane, King Crimson, John Martyn, The La's, Sleeper, Kevin Coyne, Joy Division, New Order, Pulp, PJ Harvey, Radiohead, Tricky, Massive Attack, The Fall, Nick Drake, Elton John, The Cure...........actually, I don't agree.

And black American music drew influence from Scottish and Welsh gospel. So its a re run of a re run.

Whats your point? Good music is good music. Influence is the biggest form of compliment.

It doesn't take away from the fact that the UK is a music powerhouse in creative terms. It was the pre cursor for Amercian black music, and, in the case of the list of artists starting this thread, it has produced all these world leading artitsts, despite only being the size of Florida.

The few people I have talked to in the UK still assume Def Leppard are American. The "Pyromania" album did nothing in the UK. "Photograph" did nothing either. Not too surprising as the UK generally never got onto the AOR bangwagon. And Leppard were not heavy metal, which was big in the UK and the british music press at thetime just labelled them as sellouts to America.

Agree. On the influence thing, we could probably find a trail back the the Egyptians.

The thread asked about the output of the UK. I think its pretty impressive, when you look at its size. On a square footage Vs success, it leaves the rest of the world standing.
