Has anyone taken a trip to the TVTropes's Michael Jackson page? It was a pretty interesting/amusing read.

I have a question guys.

Now that I have Google Books for my phone I want to buy a MJ related book. I know that there's a lot of books of varying degrees in the fact vs. fiction area, which makes this search very frustrating. Since these books cost money I want one that is as close to fact as possible. I would just read them all so that I can shape my opinions appropriately, but since I am spending actual money on this, I will not accept just anything. I would have just gotten a book that spoke about his art/music, but those seem really hard to come by. The Popular Music issue is not coming until next year, Joseph Vogel's book is a long time coming, and I am still hoping that my friend will, eventually, begin to work on his book...one day.

I already read that new Nelson George book about MJ and even for all the mistakes and good points he made in it, I just found it to be a little too elementary in terms of reading. I also got to finish a book called The New Blue which talked about the history of popular African American music from the 1950s-99 and he did touch a bit about MJ's music a bit, but is there more? It's like all these years and like nothing came out? Every time I go through music history books on Google Books all I see are blurbs that go something like:

Michael Jackson was big in the 80s because Thriller sold so much. Thriller was an amazing music video. Billie Jean, Beat It, and Thriller were the only songs that he ever released in his career. Quincy Jones did everything. He made pop songs with Madonna. His life spiraled out of control afterwards.

Like wtf?! Will the only time they'll actually talk about him or his music is when 20-30 years from now and everyone forgets about him and then all the white music critics will then feel comfortable enough to rediscover him?

Well, anyways, if you have any suggestions, I am totally open to them. Thanks.

Yes - I have the Quo CD. You should also listen to Quo Funk which was built around Heartbreak Hotel.

It was a pretty disappointing album, but I guess an attempt by MJJ Records to try and get a Kris Kros kind of vibe happening - also didn't hurt that Wade was one of MJ's friends at the time - and who said MJ didn't work with amateurs and friends, lol.

For better or worse - The Magic and The Madness by J. Randy Taraborrelli is probably the best of the bunch - that is if you don't already have Moonwalk by MJ himself. JRT's book, whilst using recreations of conversations that he wouldn't have been privy to to take you through the story is, for the most part well researched and backed up. A recent reissue following Michael's death called The Whole Story is probably the most comprehensive to date.

Like everything - take with a pinch of salt.

Whilst this will play out in court, it is sad to see that "witnesses" are already selling their stories to various news sources.

If we were skeptical of witnesses going to the press in MJ's trial, then we have to hold the same degree of skepticism when the same happens with this trial.

Let it all play out in court I say.

Stuff like that is the reason I don't take many music history books seriously when it comes to Michael and R&B artists in general. There's always some kind of bias

You should read Schmuley's book which is a transcript of recorded conversations he had with Michael. I think I learned a lot about Michael's perspective with that one. You can get a free copy online. Most fans say to read Taraborelli's book, but the author even said himself that everything he wrote is his interpretation of Michael's life. The quotes are taken out of context and have fictional spins, but it seems to be very popular among fans because it's not as negative as other books.

And these are just few of the occassions she met Mike. Some of my friends have her as a friend on fcb. I have never spoken to her and I don't know her personally, but I know who she is.

Life's freaking not fair.

^^ I also heard about "regular" fans that Michael recognized and knew by name. Joanna is a famous one. Anyway, I thought it was because these fans travel around different cities to see him so he recognized them. At least you were close in proximity to him and saw him live.

Well, yeah, some of them travelled all over the world to see him, but I don't know if he knew all of them by name. I've heard that Mike also often invited those who had those banners for him or who caught his attention by wearing something interesting etc. I don' t know and unfortunately I will never find out now. neutral

My issue with the pics is that are photoshopped pics, not true images.

I give props to Gella as she obviously has mad photoshop skills - but I feel that some fans will take these images, pass them on and before long will claim they are real. We've seen it happen before on shots where his vitiligo has been dialled up and enhanced as if to prove the point he had it. To me it's akin to cutting and pasting adlibs into songs - it's almost as if you prove something they over do it and it all ends up coming across as forced and almost overcompensating.

I'd rather just see actual rare pics - might just be me.

Nah, everyone pretty much knows they're fake. Even Gella maintains they're fake. She does this simply for fantasy purposes.

But I get what you're saying. I also prefer real pics as opposed to this, but they're still kinda cool.

TV cover okayed for trial of Michael Jackson doctor

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Television cameras will be allowed to film the involuntary manslaughter trial ofMichael Jackson's doctor next month as long as they do not interfere with proceedings, a judge said on Monday.

Los Angeles Superior Court judge Michael Pastor also moved forward the date of Dr. Conrad Murray's trial by four days to March 24, when jury selection will begin. The trial is expected to last about six weeks, lawyers for both sides say.

Murray has pleaded not guilty, and is free on bail. He faces up to fours in prison if convicted. Involuntary manslaughter is defined as unintentional killing without malice, and is a lesser charge than murder.

Pastor said he wanted the "absolute least intrusive placement" of a TV camera in the courtroom and he sought detailed proposals from local news crews. He also blocked cameras from broadcasting jury selection.

Murray, who was with Jackson at his home on the morning he died, June 25, 2009, has admitted giving the 50-year-old singer the powerful anesthetic propofol as a sleep aid while he was rehearsing for a series of planned comeback concerts in London. Coroners ruled his death was caused by an overdose of propofol and a cocktail of sedatives.

Janet Jackson says brothers verbally abused her

Reuters - February 8, 2011 12:06 AM PST

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Pop singer Janet Jackson says her big brother Michael Jackson used to tease her as a youngster about her bottom, while their other siblings called her a "horse," "pig" and "cow."

In an interview with NBC correspondent Meredith Vieira, on the promotional trail for her memoir, Jackson said the verbal abuse made her insecure about her looks.

"I would literally bang my head up against the wall because I didn't feel attractive," she said. "There was a lot of pain in my life. But I did. I felt very unattractive."

She used to laugh at the barnyard taunts, and said Michael's comments about her bottom were probably affectionate. But rather than confront him about his hurtful words, she simply internalized the pain.

Jackson, 44, relates her childhood trauma in her book "True You: A Journey to Finding and Loving Yourself," which will be published on February 15.

As with her siblings, Jackson was beaten by her father who forced her to call him by his first name, Joseph. Still she escaped relatively lightly, recalling that she was struck with a belt just once.

"I know my father loves me," she said. "He just has a very, very different way of showing it."

Michael Jackson, almost eight years older than Janet, once tearfully recalled that his father would "tear you up" with a belt or some other convenient cord, and "would throw you up against the wall."

Of her brother, whom she last saw about six weeks before he died in 2009, Jackson said she embarked on the grieving process long after everyone else in the family.

"I don't know if it was trying to shield the pain, or just trying to hold it all together because I saw that everyone else around me was falling apart. And, never -- never taking that moment to really grieve. Really grieve, even at the service (In July 2009).

But she recently allowed herself to watch his videos and listen to his music during a nightlong session in Paris.

"And, there was moments when I-- I felt the cry, and moments that made me laugh. And, it was good for me. I needed it," she said.

Jackson's NBC interview will air on Friday and next Monday on "Today," and Sunday Feb 13 on "Dateline."
