A 12 Inch version I've never heard before...."Get Off" by Foxy

I have never heard this version before but I absolutely LOVE it!!!

Where the hell did this come from? It's obviously not the official 12 Inch version that was released. Is it a promotional only 12 Inch that was sent only to radio stations and clubs? I would say it was some DJ's remix but then where the hell did he get those girls' acapellas at the beginning and that breakdown music? Has anyone every heard this version before? What's the story behind it?

I definately will be recording this one this weekend! lol

Sweet! Thanks for the link -- new to me too. Richard "Richie" Puente was my babysitter btw.

Oh I can so NEVER get tired of this song, lol. Whenever I hear even the first few notes, my mind is flooded with images of hips swinging, booties shaking, and all hands in the air, lol. But no, I've never heard this version before either. And leave it to the Vain One to find it and present it back to the rest of us so we can all... GET OFF!

I swear, this song puts a smile of my face EVERYTIME! I've got some super great memories behind this jam, lol. And usually, Rick James' "You And I" would have been played either soon before or soon after this one. And after we'd leave the club, we'd head on over to the Waffle House for breakfast just as the sun was about to come up. Man, I miss those days, lol.

This is the girl group that sings the background on Get Off.

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Wow...thanks, Andy....that version was new to me, too. That breakdown at the 5:00 mark is bliss.

I DO have this.....a maxi-single ( I have the tracks ripped)....it's from '79 & has several other versions of "Get Off"....

Tracklist:

1. Get Off - Disco House Mix (5:34)

2. Get Off - Radio Edit (3:56)

3. Get Off - Extended (5:44)

4. Get Off - Special 12" Disco Remix (5:44)

5. Get Off - Ultimix Electric Version (8:24)

This AWESOME nine minute mug is gonna be a toughie to find for direct DL. It musta been a promo only or disco only distribution....maybe only in Italy or sumthin.

GREAT find, man.

Oh, HELL YEAH!!! That breakdown is absolutely irresistable. The ending sounds like it might be the work of some DJ but that breakdown is what makes me think this must have been a full fledged remix by Foxy themselves.

I'm aware of the ultimix and house mix. The house mix was on a compilation I have of house mixes from TK records artists. The ultimix, I downloaded along with lots of other ultimixes from other artists. I first discovered ultimixes when I DJ'd for a brief time for a few months in a gay club in 1994. Ultimix Records has lots of great remixes by lots of artists.

I want this! lol Our classic R&B station plays an extended version of "Get Off" that I've been trying to find. It's not the regular album version,it contains a breakdown during the part where the ladies are talking at the party....."look at that thing over there"....

Is that version on your maxi-single?

Yep yep. That "look at that thang" line is in both the 5:44 mixes (prolly in the House mix & Ultimix too, but I'm not big on those)

OK, I've known you for a long time and I know you well. You're like me. You've got so much music that you've already got something in your collection that you've overlooked. Remember "Super Love" by Skyy? lol

Anyway, if I remember correctly, I think you told me once that you have a Foxy CD that contains both the "Get Off" and "Hot Numbers" albums on one CD. I bet that's the version of "Get Off" that you've been listening to. That's the album version. I know we've also talked about the Rhino series "Phat Trax" and I think you have all seven volumes of that also. Volume five (I think it's volume five) contains the original 12 Inch version of "Get Off" which is slightly longer than the album version which contains a longer party breakdown at the end with the ladies' voices. It's the last song on that CD. Go back and listen to it again. I bet that's the version you're looking for and have proabably had it all along. lol

The ultimix contains those lines also but it has slighly altered "electro" type music that was updated for the clubs in the 1990s. That may have been the version you heard also.

Yeah, those chicks are on all the versions lol but on the version that I'm referring to,there is a breakdown after they shout "Get off!".You hear just the beat and you hear that lady saying "look at that thang over there" and the other party voices, then the bass comes back in and it gets back to the regular part of the song. It's that breakdown that I love so much!

OK, this is the original 12 Inch version which is in the "Phat Trax" series. The breakdown with the part you are talking about is at 4:30 in the video. Is this the version you are talking about?

The ultimix used to be on youtube also but I don't see it anymore. They must have taken it down.

I see somebody has posted another Foxy video. I've never seen this before.

I wish somebody would post them when they performed "Hot Number" on "American Bandstand".

I TOLD you! I KNEW that was the version you were talking about because I know you don't care for the remixed versions of songs they did in the 1990s during the dance/house era so I didn't think you were referring to the ultimix. Plus, I've never heard the ultimix played on any radio stations, strictly in clubs.

That's the second time you've had something in your collection you were looking for and didn't realize it. lol

OK, I recorded this last night and I'm starting to wonder if some DJ made it. I had been hearing it through the little dinky ass speakers on the laptop but when I got the wires out and hooked the laptop into the stereo, I noticed a flaw. The breakdown part that I had never heard before did not quite match the sound of the rest of the song. The volume was a little lower, the sound was a little crisper, and the bass didn't pound quite as hard as the rest of the song.

That's alright though. When I started recording, I started out with the mixer slid down to 4. When the breakdown arrived, I slid it up to 5, and when the original part of the song resumed, I slid it back down to 4. I had to record it four times until I finally got it right with the sound to match. I was determined I was going to have that version though.
