Fantasia Boycotted Grammys Over Aretha-Tribute Snub

Feb 16, 2011

Link

Fantasia would have liked to have been part of the Grammy Awards' show-opening tribute to Aretha Franklin Sunday. When that didn't happen, she decided to stay home -- even though it meant not being able to accept her award for Best Female R&B Performance in person.

"They were honoring someone who is my idol, which is Aretha Franklin, and there is no way I could have sat there and not got the happy feet and wanting to jump on the mic because she is my favorite," Fantasia told the hosts of BET's 106 & Park Monday. "So I felt like, you know, at the end of the day I should have been on that stage so, I kind of did my own little thing last night."

When she found out she had won a Grammy, Fantasia says, "I scared my daughter, because I busted out and started crying, and she thought something was wrong with me."

She's too childish. disbelief So you completely miss your opportunity to walk the stage for your first Grammy win just because you felt snubbed that you weren't chosen to do the Aretha tribute? ohgoon One word: Stupid.

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

Actually, I did notice and wondered why she wasn't apart of the tribute. Everyone knows of her love and respect for Aretha.

Then when I saw that she was nominated and won, but wasn't there, at all. I figured she was just too busy with that woman's husband she's still fucking around with, to be bothered. So I didn't give it a second thought. shrug

Seems a little stupid. It was the night she finally walked away a Grammy winner. I'd just be happy with that if that was me.

Controversy aside, I totally agree with her.

She and maybe, I don't know, Joss Stone, should have replaced those random Country singers, or whoever they were, that were up there for some reason. Those two sounded awful singing [hollering] Aretha's songs, whereas Fantasia of course would have been fantastic, yelling or not.

Well I'm glad that you were one out of millions who noticed she wasn't there. evillol evillol But apparently everyone doesn't know of her love and respect for Aretha because if that were the case, the press and not Fantasia herself would had been released an article the very next day after the Grammy's of "Why wasn't Fantasia included in the Aretha tribute??" I think maybe she was salty because no one even noticed or spoke of it until she went on 106 & Park to announce it. shrug I just don't think Fantasia is that great. Yeah she can sing, but I think that hardly qualifies her having an ego and throwing a pissy fit over not being included in a tribute. If she's such a fan of Aretha, she would had took it like a real woman and went anyway and supported the ladies who were actually doing the tribute all the while cheering Aretha on. Just my two cents.

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

My dad said she should have been included too. He said Fantasia & Whitney, both sorta direct descendants of Aretha should have been up there.

Now does he mean 80's/90's Whitney? or 00's Whitney? Because THERE IS a difference. lol

Maybe the publicity from Fantasia's personal life drama was a deciding factor in her not being asked? lol shrug

I think that's a big part of it. Notice how the Kennedy Center didn't invite her to perform for Oprah in December. They got Jennifer Hudson - again.
