Music Predictions For 2011

Couple days late but everybody make your predictions for this year. I'll start:

-- Lauryn Hill's foolishness will continue. No new album, just random rants and bizzare antics whenever she decides to pop up.

-- Kanye West will be arrested.

-- Justin Bieber will begin to fade in the second half of the year and be considered completely washed up by Christmas.

-- Miley Cyrus will be arrested.

-- Jermaine or Randy will be caught stealing money from someplace. It will most likely have something to do with Michael.

-- Lady Gaga's era will be a success, not as big as The Fame but will still be a big deal. (Kinda like Beyonce DIL/B-Day)

-- Katy Perry, The Black Eyed Peas, and Ke$ha will all be irrelevant by August.

-- Nicki Minaj will have a 'Young Money' sextape.

-- Britney's era will be a solid hit, right on par with/exceed Circus.

-- A black male artist will come out the closet and claim to be the first to embrace his homosexuality openly for the world to see.

-- Chris Brown will be able to get radio hits but will struggle to move albums.

-- Beyonce gets pregnant this year. New album will not be the hit IASF was, won't contain a smash a la Single Ladies but will still be a solid hit. Will announce the pregnancy shortly after sales are considered to be dissapointing.

-- American Idol will finally be canceled.

-- Shania Twain's comeback will be strong.

-- Nas will release his greatest work yet and garner more critical acclaim than even Illmatic. Sales, however, will be underwhelming.

OK, as an industry insider, I'll shed some light for ya.

Lauryn has been working on her new album for 6 months. I can't tell you anything else about it, but I'll let you know that I'm EXCITED. My source? We have the same management, and I spent New Years at his house catching up on what's new with all the other artists he represents. Can't say anything else about Lauryn, and I don't know that the album will come out this year, but almost certainly before the end of 2012.

Don't expect anything from Shania any time soon. Her ex-husband, super producer Mutt Lange was running the show with regards to her career for the majority of the last 20 years. If (not when) she decides to make more music, she has to rethink her whole gameplan and find a ton of new people to work with. And there aren't many people on Mutt's level. My source? My first cousins, Simon and Diamond Duggal, co-produced her last album "Up!" and spent a year living in Shania and Mutt's house in Switzerland making it.

The Black Eyed Peas will almost certainly NOT be irrelevant. They've sold far too many records and they tour far too much for that to even be possible. You know they tour the entire world more than ANY other band, right? They go places where 90% of contemporary artists never even go and still sell out arenas. Love 'em or hate 'em, these cats work HARD. People really underestimate the Peas and their fanbase for some reason. A close friend was their tour manager for a LONG time and has nothing but great things to say about them and their work ethic. Based on their new album, I predict at least another 4 hits from it.

Oh, and as for Nas? Sorry, but there's no WAY he'll EVER make anything better than "Illmatic". It's just not gonna happen. If he could, he would have by now. "Stillmatic" came pretty damn close, but even that was a decade ago now. He's still capable of making great music, sure. But let's not have unrealistic expectations, k? My manager also worked with Nas, and when I was at his house for New Years, he showed us rare pro-shot footage of The Fugees and Nas performing together in Germany. You could see the fire and passion Nas had at that time. I've seen recent footage of him and he doesn't have that fire anymore, and he shouldn't be expected to, he's a veteran at this point and that was 15 years ago. It's like expecting Prince to have the same fire now he displayed during "The Gold Experience" era. Unrealistic.

/\ Yep. Believe me, I REALLY REALLY REALLY want to say more. But I was specifically asked not to. Lauryn is a pretty private person. But just to say that I'm very excited is enough at this point. Bear in mind, I'm a cynic with regards to Lauryn as well. But based on what I know I have very high hopes for what she's working on.

Pretty On Point with all of that. I agree on the Britney thing most of all, i think that genre if freaking starving right now for something interesting that isnt a freak-a-zoid, granted Britney sure has her moments, but she isnt doing the whole Gaga fashion things thank GOD. I think Gaga will have a strong followup, hopefully its musically challenging, but i believe there will be a sales drop off obviously.

Nicki Minaj- will easily have a sextape or some form of sexual/bi sexual scandal, she has a cover spread in next months KING with a risque shoot and some pics had to be pulled, u know that shit is going to turn up.

American Idol is over, thats pretty much a LOCK, when steven tyler is your hope to save a show and its not an Aerosmith or Rock show, time to go, Randy Jackson has this look on his face like......"Do you have my check, and can we end this already"

I think Katy Perry will venture off in other fields, but dabble in music, to stick around, the BEP's will be there, not as a seller, but as a tour draw.

With Kanye roll the dice on that one, i dont doubt him doing something stupid like that when his Jay Z collabo comes out

I dont think Chris Brown will get past his issues, i think he might see some play, but i think his continued ignorance will keep showing up.

For Justin its a matter of time before the huge fall to earth

To further these predictions:

A major label will go under, only releasing catalog stuff in the future

There will be a HUGE media merge eliminating alot of artists

iTunes will raise ther full albums price a dollar at least

"We went where our music was appreciated, and that was everywhere but the USA, we knew we had fans, but there is only so much of the world you can play at once" Magne F
