Movie #1: Chrome And Hot Leather {1971} with Marvin Gaye

Prior to this he acted in a TV film, "The Ballad of Andy Crocker", I believe it was around 1969.

there, fixed it.
I remember that film, I gotta go find it now. Thanks. I was racking my brain, the little I have left.

@ "fixed it"...
But yeah I saw a brief article on JET from that year discussing Marvin's role.

Marvin also acted in the 1969 movie The Ballad Of Andy Crocker with Lee Majors. It's interesting that the characters that Marvin played in both movies were in the military, given that he didn't like it when he was in it for real.

You're welcome. During that period, someone wanted Marvin to portray Sam Cooke, but Marvin didn't think he was ready. The movie never got made anyway. I don't think Marvin was really trying to be an actor, I think he just did these on a whim. There's that famous saying Marvin had about the idea of playing Sam Cooke: "who would want to play a soul singer who gets shot to death?" It sounded too mordibly for him.

When I watched the so-called movie in the parts I did, it was a hoot. I can't in reality imagine Marvin Gaye taking such "token" roles unless he needed money... Or was he trying to break into film at the time? I know that there weren't many movie roles for Black singers at the time...but damn! On a plus note, he looked really good! Me too, Gaye was known to be impulsive.
Wow, Marvin had a scene at the begining and at the end, at least he didn't get bumped off. If this was suppose to be a drama, I was howling with laughter.

Thanks Mickey few years ago i was looking for them!

I read that Andy Crocker was a pilot for a TV show that didn't get picked up. I doubt Marvin would have participated in the series, but who knows, Marvin did try to play pro football. If it had became a series, would the Six Million Dollar Man have come about a few years later? Marvin also wanted to be a boxer. And at one time he owned a basketball team but his deal went bust when the team moved to Utah (I believe it was the New Orleans Jazz originally). To cover the debt, he married Janis, least this is what I heard. He also had a group of boxers he was mentoring but none of his boxers made it.
I like to believe Marvin had OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder). It just seems like whatever he was into, he wanted to put his all in it and when it self-destructed, he moved to something else.

I meant online.
Found a shorter clip. It starts getting hilarious when they're trying to learn how to ride the motorbikes.

Yeah I know what you meant. I'm just in a devilish mood today, Timmy
I'm surprised that there wasn't a mention of it in Divided Souls or maybe there was but I didn't remember it.

Yeah it was probably a blurb. Marvin probably didn't enjoy the experience (though it seemed like he enjoyed the motorbike bit hahaha ). [Edited 1/7/11 8:58am]
