Me and the change of obsession in soul divas lol

I don't know why but in the last two years or so, I've had musical obsessions with some soulful divas.

From the spring of 2009 to the winter, it was Patti LaBelle (and Labelle).

The summer through the fall of last year, it was Chaka Khan.

And now (and maybe partially due to me praying so much for her recovery), Aretha Franklin.

I don't know what it is but I just wanted to point that out. lol

I was obsessed with Chaka from summer to fall of this year, now that you mention it. From winter of 2009 to spring of 2010, I was listening to a lot of Nikka Costa (she doesn't hold Diva status, of course.. but still has a soul/funk factor in her). Now I'm listening to a lot of Aretha.

Yeah. Odd thing is I discover Chaka and Aretha had a lot more quality work that I initially didn't realize. Of course I did have an inkling that they had a lot of quality work but listening to Aretha's early Columbia period, the rarer Atlantic recordings and some of the Arista work and then Chaka's early years with Rufus, her pre-I Feel for You solo period, and post-I Feel for You, they're almost matched up to me in quality.

I am in love with all these divas smile smile smile smile

Btw... can Grace jones be in this category boxed, i mean she is a diva... and is soulful.

IK IK she is nowhere near as good as Chaka, Aretha, Tina or Pat

But still... i feel she has a high place cool

Look up Marie Queenie Lyons and you'll have a new one.

Never got into Miss LaBelle. She screams way too much and destroys melodies.

It is Aretha, Gladys, Chaka...they are the 3 r&b sirens of life
