Teena Marie RIP - Part 2 (Post Here)

It came to my attention that the original thread was removed because of a troll. I know many people put some heartfelt messages on that thread. It's is beyond what I can do right now to get the original back and this certainly is not meant to replace it, I can't even sticky it as I do not mod this forum, but I hope people can continue the discussion here while I see what can be done with the original thread.

Studies have shown the ass crack of the average Prince fan to be abnormally large. This explains the ease and frequency of their panties bunching up in it.

I appreciate your effort to let us honor and respect the late, great Teena Marie. She has been the soundtrack to my life, I'm so sad that I'll never hear new music from her again. RIP Lady Tee.

Thank you so much for helping us keep Lady T's enduring legacy alive. It has only been last week since her passing and it still haunts me deeply. So unexpected and swiftly...Heaven must have the greatest choral choir and band ever envisioned and Teena is singing her praises along with numerous other gifted souls who have departed us. R.I.P. Okay, so I have been hanging out at AVClub lately and because of the holidays they never got to posting a tribute thread to her. Now, everyone else under the sun did and when I called them out on it some idiotbox contributor shared, "well, it's cause she sucks". I just didn't have the energy to fight it. I walked away...

One of my favorites too. Teena and Melvin Franklin (legendary baritone vocalist of The Temptations) really shined on this underrated cut.

Starting this thread is a nice gesture, thanks.

What I'll miss most about the first one though (aside from the number of people who shared their thoughts) was how you could track the reaction when news first began to break about her death. The first few entries on the thread were disbelief, then you could read about how people were researching their news sites, and how the Org came together to finally come to the conclusion that her passing was real.

That thread told a great story as it played out in real time, would be great if it could be recovered. nod

I take it the troll was Cornelius, though he was pulling legs with wilful ignorance he did post some interesting thoughts.

In the UK Teena is very little known, I asked my mum, girlfriend, and some of her mates about her over xmas and they were unanimous in never heving heard the name before. It was on the Top Gun Soundtrack that I first came across one of her songs, not a very good one I recall.

Anyway, Behind the Groove is my favourite from the collections I've listened to, there doesn't seem to be much online consensus as to her best album, which is usually a good thing.

RIP Teena Marie - it's always sad when someone dies early,

BUT: I wish I could hear what you guys seems to appreciate,

I mean I like her voice, but....

"Lovergirl" is her biggest disco hit, right?

This song, well I just can't seem to get into it. The same with the others.

She was very talented I'm sure, I just guess I prefer Donna Summer (/Georgio Moroder), Amii Stewart, Grace Jones and others from the disco era.

Anyway, tastes are different, don't flame me, I have tried to listen, her music just don't "speak" to me.

But I still respect it, I'm sure she was talented:

Teena Marie RIP.

shhhh! Be real quiet. Please, stop talking. Stop talking, please. Don't "speak". It is of course your right to continue. I have spoken with Donna, Ami and Grace - they want no part of this, so let's respect them too. shhhh!

If I said something dumb, I appologise. sad

I have just discovered her music recently, on iTunes: the compilation "Super Disco Hits" including "Lovergirl" 12 Inch version. I wish I could say I like this song. Still I respect her.

Peace, and RIP.

There isn't a single female artist with the ability of Teena Marie. Her jazz cuts are my personal favorites. Who else but Teena could do a jazz ballad in the vein of Jimmy Scott (Sunny Skies) on the same album as a rock track featuring Stevie Ray Vaughan (You So Heavy)?? Not only that, but she wrote, produced, arranged and performed 99% of all of her material too! I've never heard a better female vocalist in any genre.

The reason the song from Top Gun sucks is because Giorgio Moroder produced it, not Teena. She had a golden touch.
