Any of salsa/latin music? Post your favorite songs...

I'm a newbie to latin music... Just started salsa dancing lessons... I need some suggestions to work on... I'm tired of playing the same Tito Puente tracks my teacher has recommended me..

Damn, that's some nice music, perfect for warming up those winter days smile

Waiting for your suggestions smile

I'm a huge old school salsa fan and salsera myself. I would say that for your dancing you should check out anything from the Fania All Stars in their heyday, which was the 1970s. That will give you some good salsa dura for dancing. You can also try some artists from the later 1970s into the 1980s and forward for some salsa romantica.

My favorites old school salsa artists are:

Hector Lavoe

Wille Colon and Hector Lavoe

Chivirco Davila

Cheo Feliciano

Ray Barretto

Ismael Miranda (especially with Larry Harlow)

Ismael Quintana

Ismael Rivera

El Gran Combo

Celiz Cruz

Johnny Pacheco

Santos Colon (Santitos y Menique, they mostly have boleros (ballads) but their faster stuff is great for dancing)

Adalberto Santiago (with Ray Barretto)

Some newer Salsa romantica artists:

Jose "El Canario" Alberto

Frankie Ruiz

Marc Anthony

Hopefully this helps. I didn't list songs, but you can't go wrong with most of the 1970s work from these artists. I am not as big a fan for later salsa, so someone else can help you out there.

Enjoy!

perfection is a fallacy of the imagination...
