Props to Expose (yes the group) for their victories in ownership

Now this happend about 2 years ago but it wasnt discussed on the Org, rather we have been talking about the decline of the industry and artists getting screwed, but here were a major group that had major hits, lets not deny them their due, they were fucking good and still continue.

Hits like

Point of No Return

Come GO with Me

Let me Be the One

Seasons Change

What you dont know

Tell me Why

When i Looked at Him

(all top 10 hits)

Your Baby never looked good in Blue

I'll never get over you Getting over me

I wish the phone would ring

Angel

I specialize in love

Now Expose had some issues right off the bat, the first 1,000 albums were pressed with different lead singers, then when Jeanette Jurado joined the group and Ann Curless and Gioia Bruno things were rerecorded however two tracks remained with the original voice, one being the club hit "Exposed to Love", now Expose exploded in 1987 with 4 straight top 10's a number one, a double platnum album, this was all unheard of from a free-style, latin led band, behind Lewis A Martinee, but things started to turn, mangament forcing less dance more ballads more seriousness at times, but after 1995 the group that had sold 25 million worldwide was dropped and then broke up officially in 1996. After some solo work by all members, including Kelly Moneymaker who replaced bruno due to illness, the band tried to reform in 2003 did some shows but nothing materialized further, then in 2006 Bruno returned with the other 3 for some shows, including a 16 song show with full band and Expose was signed to paradise artists, but as we know, once you get some light on you someone wants to steal it.

Expose members were all then sued by their original management and label claiming that THEY owned Expose and that they had no right to sing under this name. Through a court battle the original 3 stood as Defendants against the powers that be and WON, the only count they lost on was that they broke an agreement with the managers, however the judge tossed it out, and gave Bruno, Curless, and Jurado OWNERSHIP of the name Expose, citing that they were in fact the real group and had been since 1986, they were not de-frauding the public, any other version would not have been accepted.

So props to these ladies for fighting for it and winning, and getting ready to release a new record in 2011 and tour worldwide once again.

Yeah you rarely hear of a victory and being allowed to keep their name, i mean true they didnt come up with it, BUT they are the group, its not like its one original and two new girls going out with the name and hits, they won based on the lineup being in tact.

Yep and we seen many legendary groups whose original members split up for whatever reason and it's always one or two trying to fight to keep their name in their rights and often failing for some reason.

Yeah that is the mess that went on with one of fave bands STYX. Basically the one with more members won out. Dennis Deyoung one of the founding members left in 2000, 2 of the other founders still in STYX (James Young, and Chuck Panozzo) carried on with Tommy SHaw and Lawrence Gowan as STYX, Dennis sued them a few years later and lost, he now tours solo as Dennis Deyoung "The Voice of STYX" , while the others tour as STYX.

The STYX situation was a real mess.

Then you have The Temptations (Otis Williams) and The Temptations Revue (Dennis Edwards). I think there are two versions of War also. There's also fake groups going under The Platters and other old vocal groups. Mary Wilson from The Supremes was trying to get legislation to prevent bogus groups from profiting by using another groups name.

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Yep. I think had the original members stayed together, they could've also prevented this.
