Who is on the horizon? Recommendations please.

As I sit here still trying to wrap my head around Teena's sudden passing, I keep trying to think of who is going to carry the torch? All the greats who have passed lately are so unique and original. Yet, the thing they had in common was their amazing talent. Thinking of Teena, Rick, Barry, Luther, Gerald, Michael, etc. one thing that stands out among others is how great their voices are. None of them sounded like anyone else. Their voices are so distinct.

There are some new artists out there who are interesting and creative. However, vocally, who is next on the horizon?

Who has a voice that sends chills down your spine? Who has that tone that makes you see angels? The one that makes you embarass yourself trying to sing along with it? The one that makes you close your eyes and shake your head in disbelief that a sound like that can come from a human being?

Just listen to the delivery on this one.

As much as I hate to admit it, I've been listening to new albums by Jazmine Sullivan and Chrisette Michele lately and I believe that they can carry some longevity in the business. But it is always criminal to look at the past to determine what can be original and unique right now, as things have changed and gotten worse in the music industry. There have been many labels implemented on radio-ready, talentless, worthless artists today as The New Michael Jackson or The New Gladys Knight, but I believe in individuality and originality. That's where real music lies and whether someone can carry the torch and reinvent the music landscape again.

You know, I am not even looking for the next anything. I just want to hear some great "sangin'" as folks say. I listen to people like Leela James, Ledisi, Lalah Hathaway, Tweet, but they're not spring chickens. However, I do think those women can sing. I really can't think of any male singers at the moment.

Thanks for the recommendations of Jazmine Sullivan and Chrisette Michele. Jazmine just overdoes it too much for me, though. Chrisette has a nice voice. She doesn't give me chills, but I do think that she is good.

Dang I forgot about Ledisi and Lalah...those two women have done much damage together and they still go unnoticed by the wack industry.
