I was waiting for someone to bring him up. I think the comparison is apt. I continue to be surprised that Foxx's music is taken seriously where Eddie was taken as a joke. I know that Foxx had an album early in his career (before he became mainstream) and Eddie had mainstream comedy success before putting out an album, so perhaps that has something to do with the different treatment. But I think they are both on par in terms of talent, and in general fair to average musicians. I actually might even give the slight edge to Eddie, as when I see Jamie perform even his own music, it seems like a mimic/impression. When Eddie sang I didn't feel that way.

Yeah but that movie also benefitted from Frank Oz and Steve Martin. It's one of my faves for sure. I would go as far as say that the Top 3 Murphy movies are 1) Cop II 2) Coming to America and 3) Bowfinger.

My Top 3 Murphy Movies would have to be:

Contrary to popular belief, Eddie was able to do some good music. You may think it's cheesy now but the instrumentals he wrote for "Raw" were decent.

As for Eddie's singing capabilities I think he's fairly decent. Compared to some of the crap being played on the airwaves now...Party All The Time could be considered a breakout hit!

He certainly does a good James Brown imitation/parody.

I was watching his Delirious stand up yesterday... and OMG, I laughed so hard.

I definitely think he is talented...

I read in Paul Mooney's book "Black Is The White" (great name for a book) that Keenen was about to whip his ass cause he stole onw of his jokes , this was back before Keenen was really somebody in the comedy world and they were hangin' with Eddie everyday.

This was I belive right before RAW wich is probably why Keenen was apart of the film.

I don't think there ever was, I did read before the Arsenio got pissed at Robert Townsend way back in the day.
