The Beatles................they invented everything about music.

George Harrison did produce some of Billy Preston's songs and John Lennon had something to do with Fame by David Bowie.

John Lennon played guitar on "Fame" along with Bowie's rhythm guitarist Carlos Alomar. Lennon and Alomar, along w/Bowie are also credited as co-writers on the song, too.

It sounds like there are at least two guitars playing at the same time on "Fame", but I can't tell who's playing what parts on it.

It's a complex question, which science is only now beginning to fully comprehend. Initially, it was believed to be a result of the effects of melanin on the section of the brain known as the Throbassonic Cortex. Researchers hypothesized that melanin-producing genes were a hereditary quality which could be traced all the way back to the early Thumpasorus peoples, known to have existed in tight harmonious units, getting nasty with their bad selves.

More recently, however, research has begun to suggest that what was once deemed to be genetically-inherited may, in fact, be environmental. This line of thinking began when tests on newborns revealed that, regardless of heredity, they all initially existed in a state of pre-spankic self-satisfunktion, which was only later diminished by the nosic tendencies of the Placebo Syndrome (the so-called Pinocchio Effect). Indeed, it is now widely recognised that in social environments with a high funkentelechy quotient, the juices of those with even low melanin concentration can be remain vitalised through puberty and into adulthood.

Furthermore, even in those unfortunate enough to have already been subject to a certain degree of pimping of the pleasure principle, it is still possible to achieve mental liberation (with a concordant state subsequently spreading to the posterior) through prolonged exposure to the element referred to simply as The P., which has long been known to have habit-forming qualities. Researchers are now optimistic about the potential for us to truly become one nation under a groove.

There are white funk guitar players. In every city where live music is played, you'll find them. And, they're straight-up beasts.

There are a ton in Nashville, a town reknown for guitar-slinging talents (on a good day, I'm in that number).

Some faves you should know about who have demonstrated funky phrasing and out-and-out fonk:

Wendy Melvoin

Doyle Bramhall II

Johnny Lang

Tim Reynolds (DMB)

Jonatha Brooke

Pete Glenister (TTD)

The Farriss boys (INXS)

Robben Ford

Eric Schenkman (Spin Doctors)

David Rhodes (Peter Gabriel)

Stevie Ray Vaughan

Steve Vai

John Mayer

Phil Keaggy

There certainly are more white funk guitar talents, but these are the ones who come to mind.
