To promote the new season of NBA on the TNT Network, the network has licensed a brand new track from Lenny Kravitz as their season opener soundtrack. | |

The intro track started up and I thought, "Hmm. This isn't what I was expecting at all. It's soulful and pleasingly understated. Seems I've underestimated Lenny; pegged him as a man of style over substance - all retro riffing and no depth. Could it be that they've commissioned him as a jingle-writer and, with the restless, beating heart of an artist, he's thrashed against the constraints of the task and imaginatively come back with a thoughtful meditation on urban life, the broken dreams of the city's downtrodden population, and basketball as a tragic but noble medium of aesthetic engagement, athletic prowess and escape from the harsh reality of the world around....?"
Then, after 40 seconds, the real track kicked-in, and I thought, "Ahh, yes. Now, this is exactly what I was expecting."

Man that intro had me really disapointed and a big feeling of let-down was creeping in...
and then the song really started...and YES THANK YOU LENNY. I WANT IT. WHEN WHEN WHEN CAN WE GET THIS?!?!? I LOVE IT. Jammin!!

Come on Lenny. Really? I'm hoping this is a throwaway, non-album sort of track. The stuff he's been posting online over the last year was certainly better than this.A bit uninspired lyrically and nothing new, but it's a vast improvement on anything from the last album. | |
