The final box set list has been released by Rhino France, see below.

There are some real gems in there for instance Nile Rodgers remix of "Dream Girl".

Three Johnny Mathis tracks from the STILL!!! unreleased "I Love My Lady" album CHIC did with him in 1981. I'm really happy that my favorite track from that album "Sing" is on there. I am surprised that they didn't put the title track in the box, perhaps that is something we can look forward to in Vol II or III, if we buy enough box sets that is.

Two tracks from Fonzi Thornton's "Frostbite" album he did with CHIC in 1981 is great, but what we really want is that full album.

The real surprise is a previously unknown track "Just Call Me" which according to our fountains of information, chictribute.com associates and generally glorious guys, FrenCHIC, & Simon Parr (who informed me), is a track that was recorded after the "Believer" sessions were finished (a time when we all thought CHIC had disbanded?).

4 outtakes may also give us insight to the CHIC gang working in the studio, and that, for me, is very interesting.

Dimitri from Paris who is possibly the best remixer in the world today delivers 5 remixes, most of them CHIC hits, but he has chosen one track not from the CHIC Organization heyday, and that remix is the most interesting to me; "I Feel Your Love Comin' On". So I'm getting really really really excited anticipating the 18th of October, a great day indeed.

I'm glad they decided to release part of the Johnny Mathis albums.

On a side note, as much as I love the so-called Chic Organization, I hate how they keep throwing their female singers under the bus disbelief rolleyes that album cover is a slap to the face of the women who contributed to the music, Niles & Bernard did their thing & the cherry on top, but the women provided some pizzazz too, they were the ones who breathed life into the song.

I think a smaller verison of the image was used on the C'est Chic album back cover. But I don't find its use inappropriate here because Rodgers and Edwards were considered the face of the Chic Org. They were the major driving force in writing and producing all the material and forging the band's image. No disrespect intended to Alfa, Luci and Norma Jean.

They were the BODY of Chic, the women were the face of the group. I don't think the songs would've been memorable had Niles & Bernard used themselves as vehicles to their songs, they knew a female voice would be an asset and an attraction.

More & more, I've seen stuff from Rogers where he trivialize the effort of the Chic divas, and its just prove to me how "Boys Club" driven this industry is,,,,still.

I understand . But in my opinion Chic would have been equally successful if Nile and Bernard employed a rotating group of female vocalists. In the end, (for me, at least) it was all about the craftsmanship of the Chic-written songs.

Fair enough. But it wasn't impossible to at least put a cover of the whole group, its only fair since 3/4 of the tracklist was by them.

For some reason,Niles has a real problem with the original Chic female vocalists.Several years ago,the ladies were touring on their own, billing themselves as "The first ladies of Chic".Niles sued them confused And when Chic reunited in 1992 for the 'Chicism" album, they didn't even ask the original ladies to be a part of it.I wish I knew what all this drama is really about.

Thats messed up. Did they touch on that in this book?

[img:$uid]http://www.disco-disco.com/images/chic-ed-book.jpg[/img:$uid]

Its more likely a case of "how soon do we forget". Niles was producing Madonna & Bowie in the 80s, and it seemed like the Chic ladies were treated as 3rd wheels.

Norma Jean was under contract with the group "State Of Art" she had formed with former CHIC member Raymond Jones at the time of the CHIC-ism project, I think Alfa and Luci also was unavailable? Alfa may have been with Luther Vandross at that time?

I can't be sure of this, but maybe Nile & Nard knew that the original Ladies weren't available to front the project, and that's why they didn't ask them. Anyway Alfa and Luci had participated in the CHIC reunion at the China Club in NYC, at Nile Rodgers birthday party in the late 80s. That evening sparked the CHIC-ism project. Now if there was so much animosity they would not have been there.

China Club CHIC reunion at Nile Rodgers birthday bash in the late 80s.

Nile Rodgers birthday party at the China Club in NYC in the late 80s: from the left: Paul Schaffer, Luci Martin, Nile Rodgers, Alfa Anderson, Bernard Edwards, Fonzi Thornton, Philippe Saisse, Curtis King.

I agree with you that Nile Rodgers underestimates the importance the Ladies have had for us fans, but there would not have been any CHIC productions at all without Bernard & Nile.

I think that their anonymity (for most of the public), which may have seemed as a good idea at the time (70s), now doesn't sit so well. I can understand that Nile wants more name recognition after everything great he's done in music.

Regarding the lawsuit, I didn't like it, but to be fair to Nile, and this was not Luci or Norma Jeans fault either, sometimes the Ladies weren't publicized, in ads or posters of the event they were performing at, as "The First Ladies Of Chic" but simply as CHIC. If you had a touring band named CHIC (that name I think we can agree belongs to Nile and the estate of Bernard) and you find out you are advertised appearing at places you're not going to perform at, you may think that the situation is not sustainable. As I said it was not Luci or Norma Jeans fault it was the event organizers fault who advertised something they shouldn't.

Regarding the box cover, it is not a CHIC (group) box, it's a CHIC Organization box. You could say that the Ladies should be on there, but so should Fonzi Thornton, Michelle Cobbs, Raymond Jones, Andy Schwartz aka Andrew Barrett and The CHIC strings who all were an integral part (being on almost all CHIC albums) of the CHIC band and also toured with them. We can go on, there are lot's of people who were a part of the CHIC family. This box is all about those words on the back side of the many albums we all love so much "Produced by Bernard Edwards And Nile Rodgers For The CHIC Organization Ltd.". I think it's appropriate that Nile'nNard are on the front cover of Vol. I.
