Identity

I once had the cassette version of Straight from the Heart. But it was "Haven't You Heard" (from Pizzazz) that piqued my interest in her. Oh, did I mention she has lots of sex appeal?

I love her!!! (though I must admit mainly the albums she recorded for Elektra in the late 70's/early 80's. She will be on tour with Lee Ritenour in Europe very soon.

Just like the white winged dove...

I love what little tracks from Patrice that I've heard, but her back catalogue is very hard to find ( a greatest hits cd on Play.com is going for nearly 100 pounds!!!) on Play, Amazon, file sharing sites.

It's a shame as I'd like to hear her LP's.

I've seen her in a seminar with Brenda Russell. It was SO cool, they ended the discussion with a piano duet(each of them on one) playing a flourishing version of Duke Ellington's "Sophisticated Lady".

I already how much of a beast Babyfingers is when it comes to keys, but I didn't expect Miss Russell to be so great as well.

When I heard that she & her then ex-boyfriend Charles Veal were playing in Prince' "Baby", I played the song a million times even though I didn't really care for it,,,,just because Trice was on the keys.

BTW, her jazz fusion records with Fantasy was just as great as her Funk/R&B stuff music

Her discography is relevantly small though nod it wasn't hard for me to get them all on CD(except for "Shout It Out" which I bought on LP, mint condition, and like you said, with the price of pearl!!).

Also worth saying that she has an impeccable rep (I've NEVER heard of somebody saying even one disparaging word about Patrice) on top of being stellar talent.

Pretty darned special lady, all in.

her back catalogue hard to find question confuse ... this below was just one search-click on amazon

Product DetailsProduct DetailsProduct DetailsProduct DetailsProduct Details
Product DetailsProduct DetailsProduct DetailsProduct DetailsProduct Details

Product DetailsProduct DetailsProduct DetailsProduct DetailsProduct Details

most copies above are generally priced payable, with a few exceptions : Amazon.com: patrice rushen

and another few dozen of her back catalogue elsewhere online : patrice rushen cds on eBay

and if that expensive greatest hits cd is this one : Product Details which is indeed priced for $ 141.02, then that seller isn't really wise to do so

because about 26 other copies of the same cd are available for less than the half of $ 141.02 lol

Lets see, a black woman who's in complete control of her music and livelihood, and lives a sane life,,,thats the counter image of how the music industry view its black divas, I'm afraid.

She has also been asked a number of times as Musical Director for the Grammy's. She was there on the recent one when Sly Stone suddenly appeared on stage.

The use of her "Forget Me Nots" sample in "Men In Black" might've helped her recognition in recent years too,

and she is a well recognized artist in the jazz-genre where she mainly focusses her attention these days.

Patrice is playing a Rhodes on this song.

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton
