Guilty pleasures: Music from the 'Rocky' Movies.

My prediction for this thread? PAIN!

Wildly cheesy some of it and so 80's. I have a soft spot for some of it though, it's so not my type of music, but 'Gonna Fly Now', 'Livin in America' and 'Eye Of The Tiger' still take me back to my teen years. I dearly loved the Rocky films.

And yeah, they made me want to go running too.

Own up!smile

Robert Teppers album from around that time is great fun if you like your AOR high tech! Stallone got Robert Tepper on that album I think?

Yeah, I love the Rocky IV and V OST's. John Cafferty's "hearts on fire" was cheesy as hell, but that synth solo by Vince Dicola was tight and must of sounded ahead of it's time back then. I hated it when Family Guy creator said it sounded like it came from a cheap casio. Idiot had no idea.

Elton John's "Measure of a man" from Rocky V is probably quite overlooked in his vast catalogue. Nice song.

John Cafferty's Hearts On Fire is my single favourite Rocky song, I loved Vince DiCola's score too, it was a bit if a shock after the Bill Conti scores for 1 to 3 though but it really grew on me. The soundtrack to 4 has a lot of quality songs on it, one of my faves being the UK's very own Go West with One Way Street.

I own 1 to 4 on vinyl and 4 is definately my favourite, though I'd like to see a complete Vince DiCola score like he did for the Transformers animated movie.

I'm partial to the instrumental, "Butkus" from the 1st "Rocky" movie. It's like a funky, laid-back variation of "Gonna Fly Now". Man, those strings! music

I love parts I, II, III and VI of the Rocky saga sooo much, especially the soundtracks, but honestly, I can´t say the same about parts IV and V and their soundtracks. Those two films AND their soundtracks were not really my cup of tea and waaaay too cheesy for me. Vince Di Cola did a decent job but hey, Rocky is not the same without the music of Bill Conti.

Here´s another one of my favorites ( Butkus is another one but that is already posted above):

The film score of the original Rocky is a masterpiece...

The Rocky II main theme was also pretty good/cool...

Eye of the Tiger is an early-80s CLASSIC cool

The Rocky IV soundtrack is definitely better than the film lol and still one of the best "workout music" CDs out there...the hundrends and hundreds of lift ups that I've done with Training Montage and Heart's On Fire blasting through the speakers... cool lol

Great, great music.

I am a HUGE fan of the Rocky series and I'll tell you this: Bill Conti's stuff is forever genius, the rest is hit or miss. I like "Eye of the Tiger" and "Living in America", but a lot of the Rocky 4 and Rocky 5 soundtracks are pretty dated and corny.

Still, they fit well with their movies and lift Stallone's masterpieces higher than they would be without. Stallone basically invented the blueprint for the modern sports movie and the music is vital to that.

I hated the "Rocky" movies. I only watched bits and pieces of the first one and got bored with it. I didn't watch any of the others. I loved the song "Eye Of The Tiger" though.
