Hardly. Not everything is a parallel to sex. In fact, a lot of those bands just flat out sang about dancing and partying. "Get down" was a phrase used as much in the 70's as "Oh my god, like totally" was in the 80's.

How you gonna do it
If you really don't want to dance
By standing on the wall
Get your back up off the wall
Tell me, baby
How you gonna do it
If you really won't take a chance
By standing on the wall
Get your back up off the wal

Totally about a wallflower they're trying to coax into the dance floor.

Although Kool and The Gang did some funk. I don't know that I would call "Get Down On It" funk. One of my favorite Karaoke jams though. Kool and The Gang was Hot...."Sumer Madness" both the live, and the LP.

Although I'm your biggest fan...I'm also your biggest critic. Can you deal with that?

I thought it was funk. JT Taylor just has a pop voice.

Don't laugh at my funk
This funk is a serious joint

Why would anyone listen to one minute of today's shitty so-called R&B when they could be listening to this? This is superior in every single way.

Love this song, but I prefer the 12" extended remix version from 1982.It features more layers of synths.

Because many young folks haven't been exposed to the good stuff.

The album that this song is from ('Something Special') is arguably the best Kool and The Gang album of the "JT years".

And they have bad parents who are scared to argue with them when they even mention it. lol

Luckily for my kids, they get a heaping dose of funk, disco, motown and other oldies goodness every day. I urge them to get on my drums, guitar, keyboard, whatever and they know mom and dad aren't musical pushovers.

I thought it was funk. JT Taylor just has a pop voice.

I feel you, but it seems that the "intro" is more funk...but some how the funk gets lost and the pop / r&B becomes dominant during the rest of the song. Great song nonetheless.

That's why having JT gave them a pop audience. Without it it would've been a funk instrumental lol but yeah great song anyways regardless of its genre.
