Is Dionne Warwick the Duet Queen?

Not even counting her duets on Solid Gold, this lady has recorded a LOT of duets. I think more than the average recording artist.

In terms of volume, maybe.

In terms of quality, I think Tammi Terrell or Ella Fitzgerald holds the crown.

That's what I was thinking...quantity. She has done more than the average recording artist.

That's true. She really did. Maybe Ella is the queen of duets and Dionne is the princess? I love the 2 duets she did with Stevie on The Woman In Red soundtrack.

I wouldn't call neither Dionne nor Ella "duet queens".

My thing has always been quantity, quality and legacy. In all three terms, you can argue that Marvin Gaye and Roberta Flack are the masters of the duet.

Marvin...yes.

Roberta...no.

I'm not a big fan of hers. She did some great duets with Donny, but I wasn't crazy about her duets with Peabo and others.

If you think about Dionne's career as of late, she has relied on duets and collaborations. The biggest hit of her career, "That's What Friends Are For," is a collaboration.

Here are a few more that I just thought of that she's done:

It's kinda funny though because she used to never rely on duets until the mid-'70s. I guess in a way you got a point since her first #1 was this song:

Timmy: gotta disagree here, brother. She performed dozens of duets, and indeed, her duets with Louis Armstrong alone might merit that title. The case could be made for Ella at least as well as it could be for Roberta, a "mistress" of the art of the duet in her own right.

nod Don't even talk about her work with Sinatra. I don't know how much of that was released on records but their TV specials are classic examples of two masters at work!

Turns out none of their duets were released on records due to contractual reasons.

Well, Ella (and Tammi, who I mentioned in the next breath of my first post) have each left us, so maybe we should decide among living artists!

I really don't know. I've only heard a couple of tunes. Let me look for clips and I'll post. Here's an EPK for the cd:

Now here's a DUET! These champs were going at it. Never seen Frank look so carefree you can tell he really respected Ella's skills.
